One in seven children born to women who may have had the Zika virus while they were pregnant had at least one associated birth defect.
A new study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Tuesday examined about 1,400 mothers and babies with confirmed or potential cases of Zika.
Zika in pregnant women can cause babies to have serious abnormalities, some of which can lead to epilepsy, vision loss and developmental problems.
The number of potentially Zika-affected children has gone up since the the last report by the CDC on the topic. A 2016 study showed one in 10 babies born to women with Zika had a birth defect.
