No, President Trump Didn't Cancel Obama Center Funding

A report claiming the Obama Presidential Center would be funded with Education Department money was just plain false.

You may have seen a story circulating that claimed President Donald Trump canceled federal funding for the Obama presidential library. That's total fantasy.

A website called The Patriot Report claimed former President Barack Obama wanted to divert $8 million from the Department of Education's "library division" to build his presidential center in Chicago. It said when Trump found out, he wrote an order to cancel it.

First of all, there's no such thing as a "library division" in the Department of Education. Second, the Obama Presidential Center won't require any funding from the Department of Education anyway.

Instead, its construction will be funded through the Obama Foundation and other non-governmental means. That's how most presidential centers are funded. The Obama Foundation will actually run the presidential center instead of the National Archives and Records Administration, which oversees other presidential libraries.
