The U.S. economy added more jobs than analysts predicted in June, according to the Labor Department's report.

The Labor Department's June jobs report is out, providing a look at the U.S. economy.

It shows that 213,000 jobs were added in June, beating economists' predictions and marking another strong month after 223,000 jobs were created in May. Manufacturing, professional, business and health care services had the most gains, while the retail sector lost jobs.

Modest increases in average hourly earnings were recorded, with wages climbing 2.7 percent from a year ago, but only rising 0.2 percent from May.

The unemployment rate grew to 4 percent, up from the 3.8 percent rate in May. Economists had expected the jobless rate to hold steady, but experts say that increase is likely due to more Americans entering the labor force looking for work.
