Google Says It's Fired 48 People For Sexual Harassment Over 2 Years

Google says it's "taking an increasingly hard line on inappropriate conduct by people in positions of authority."

Google is admitting it's had numerous issues with sexual harassment.

In a staff email, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, "In the last two years, 48 people have been terminated for sexual harassment, including 13 who were senior managers and above."

Pichai sent the email on Thursday following a New York Times report that said Google fired two top executives over allegations of sexual misconduct against them but kept silent about the accusations.

The Times said Google did not make the allegations known publicly and offered the employees millions of dollars in payouts even though it wasn't required to. It also said a third executive who was accused of misconduct remained at the company.

Pichai's email seemed to contradict the report. It said Google has been taking an "increasingly hard line on inappropriate conduct by people in positions of authority" and that of the 48 people it let go for harassment, none received an exit package.
