Dozens Injured In High-Speed Ferry Crash In Hong Kong

At least 85 people were injured in an early morning crash Friday. More than 100 people were on board when the crash happened.

Dozens have been injured after a high-speed ferry crashed into an unknown object on the water just outside Hong Kong Friday.

Bloomberg reports the early morning crash happened only about 15 minutes after the boat left Hong Kong on its way to Macau. (Via Bloomberg)

Officials said more than 100 passengers and 10 crew members were on board at the time of the accident — at least 85 of them were reported injured. (Via NBC)

A passenger who said he wasn't wearing his seatbelt — and ended up injured — described what happened to the South China Morning Post.

"Many people in the boat flew up, but not very high ... When they fell, they crashed many chairs. ... It was like a racing car suddenly hit a wall." (Via South China Morning Post)

The South China Morning Post adds fireboats were sent to the crash site to investigate what the ferry might have hit, but they weren't able to find anything. (Via WXIA)

This comes a little more than a year after two ferries collided outside Hong Kong, killing almost 40 people in Hong Kong's deadliest water accident in four decades. (Via CNN)

The company that owns the ferry said there wasn't any significant damage on the boat. It added the ferry passed a safety inspection just last month. So far, Bloomberg reports 66 people have been released from the hospital.
