Facebook Ditches Thumbs-Up on 'Like' Button

Facebook will roll out new

After three years, Facebook has given its thumbs-up the thumbs-down.

Since 2010, Facebook "Like" buttons on websites have displayed a thumbs-up next to the word "Like," but not anymore. (Via Digital Trends)

The "Share" button has also been slightly revamped, swapping colors. The changes are designed to make it easier to put the two together by placing them in a single embed. (Via Engadget, TechCrunch)

Now, this isn't necessarily a change to Facebook; it's more like a change by Facebook to other sites. When you click the "Like" button on your favorite Web pages, you won't see the thumb; you'll see the new icon. Both the "Like" and "Share" buttons are seen about 22 billion times a day, with referral traffic greater than all other social networks combined.

On Facebook's developer blog, it's explained the change comes to "help people share more great content across the web. We're already seeing a favorable increase in Likes and Shares with the new design and will be rolling these buttons out to everyone in the coming weeks."

And in case you aren't completely sure what the difference is between the two options, "liking" Web pages will automatically share the post to Facebook, while "Share" lets you add a personal message first.
