iPhone Preorders Plagued By Site Glitches

Apple's latest iPhones were set to go on sale Friday, but several sites experienced glitches resulting in delayed preorder windows.

Apple announced its latest round of iPhones on Tuesday, and on Friday those devices were available for preorder starting at midnight Pacific Time. 

Well, they were supposed to be available for preorder. Many of the sites offering up the new devices — those of T-Mobile, Sprint and even Apple itself — seemed to be experiencing hiccups. (Video via Apple)

According to CNET, several sites missed the midnight goal — some by up to two hours.

Apple's online store was reportedly down for about two hours after midnight, though its app was functioning properly.

As for Sprint and T-Mobile, CNET reports "access to Sprint's site faded in and out, while the T-Mobile site continued to display a form to register for a reminder for when the preorders began."

So we decided to give each of the major sites a try ourselves by following the steps required to preorder a 16GB iPhone 6. 

Apple, AT&T and Verizon Wireless appeared to be functioning properly. The sites displayed a September 19 delivery date for the device.

But as of 7 a.m. Central Time, T-Mobile was still displaying a form that allows customers to sign up for a preorder reminder — you know, for midnight on September 12 ... which has already passed.

Sprint, on the other hand, displayed a link to preorder, and even began to load the page ... but it stopped there.

As it stands, your best bet for ordering Apple's latest device is Apple, AT&T, or Verizon Wireless. And don't even think about ordering an iPhone 6 Plus if you want it on launch day. Delivery estimates are now at three to four weeks.
