Reviving '90210' -- good idea or a big zip?
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Reviving "Beverly Hills, 90210": Genius move or last-ditch measure by a low-rated, desperate network?
Bonnie Hunt headlining her own daytime talk show
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Many folks working in Hollywood excel at playing nice. But Bonnie Hunt has always seemed like the real deal: An entertainer who's as genuine as she is funny.
Steven Bochco's 'Raising the Bar' actually lowers it
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
If the year were 1990, TNT's "Raising the Bar" (10 p.m. EDT Monday) might seem new and tantalizing. But in 2008, it just feels like a show from 1990.
"Raising the Bar" is as pedestrian as cable dramas come. Executive producer Steven Bochco seems stuck in his old ways, like a dog who refuses to learn new tricks.
'Sid the Science Kid' a welcome addition to PBS Kids preschool block
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- If you were to walk onto a soundstage at The Jim Henson Company studios and see performer Misty Rosas, clad in a black leotard-type outfit and wandering within a circle drawn on the floor with what looks like an inner tube around her waist, you might think she's gone 'round the bend.

By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
"Sid the Science Kid" isn't the only addition to the children's-TV landscape this fall on PBS. Two other new shows are scheduled:
"Martha Speaks" (7:30 a.m. EDT weekdays, premiering Monday): Based on a book series by Susan Meddaugh, the Martha of the title is a dog who consumes alphabet soup that gives her the ability to speak like a human.
Original online shows expand TV's limits
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
TV shows on the Internet aren't a new phenomenon. Amateurs have been making their own programs and posting them online for several years. And current prime-time shows are regularly available for viewing online.
A political wonk's paradise: convention coverage
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
If this year's epic presidential primary coverage wasn't enough to put you off politics, rejoice! The next two weeks will be a political wonk's paradise as broadcast and cable networks cover the Democratic and Republican conventions and the presidential nominations of U.S. Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain.
A good British sitcom
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
BBC America's "Gavin & Stacey" (8:40 p.m. EDT Tuesday) is the British equivalent of an American, single-camera laugh-track-free comedy series. It's amusing and knowing and will make some viewers smile, but it probably won't provoke gales of laughter. And that's fine.
'Mister Rogers' fan launches Web site to save daily episodes
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
When Brian Linder read on Post-Gazette.com three weeks ago about PBS ending its practice of feeding "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" episodes to member stations on a daily basis this fall, he didn't have to be told twice what to do with the mad that he felt, to paraphrase one of Fred Rogers' songs.
