FBI's estimated homicide clearance rates from 1965-2008

The following are the FBI's estimated homicide clearance rates from 1965 to 2008. The Department of Justice considers a homicide case to be cleared when "at least one person is arrested, charged with the commission of the offense, and turned over to the court for prosecution." In some cases, a crime may be cleared by "exceptional means" when an identified offender is killed during apprehension or commits suicide.
