Grandparent's heartbreak second time around

Staying and active and involved grandparent after the child of your heart reaches the teen years is not without it's painful side. No natter how much you understand that it's perfectly natural for a teenager to want to hang out with his buddies instead of his old grandparents, it still hurts when it happens. Just that took place recently when my older grandson came for a visit and was supposed to stay for two weeks. Instead he decided that he'd rather go back home to his friends.

At first I felt like my heart had been on a roller coaster ride. That night when I went to bed I thought I would feel terrible. But all at once I realized that I didn't have to get up in the morning and worry about a youngster's breakfast. The house was peaceful and quiet - no sullen teenager angst filled the air. But most of all, I was free. Lesson: raising one family was enough for anybody. it's nice to see them come for a visit - and it's also a relief to see them go home....
