I'm always looking for a wonderful centerpiece concept for my next event. This is an exceptional project because it's fast, unique and a lot of fun to make. All you need to start is a lovely basket with a handle, a basket lamp adapter kit and miniature figurines, tiny flowers and other delightful miniatures you may already have at home.
The great thing about this basket lamp centerpiece is that you can change it on a whim. The basket and fixture stay the same but the scene or contents can change from season to season, or holiday to holiday. Try customizing this concept for weddings, birthdays, baby showers, a soccer party -- anything you like. Make it personal and your efforts will be so appreciated.
Gather:
Basket with handle
Floral foam brick
Basket lamp adapter kit
Moss
Miniature ceramic animals or figures
Paper flowers
Scissors
Vines from your garden
Vintage ephemera
Wire
Wire cutters
Create:
Fill the bottom of the basket with the floral foam. Cover the foam with moss.
Screw the basket-adapter lamp hardware in place at the center of the handle. Wrap the electrical cord down one side of the basket's handle and secure with wire.
Cover the basket's handle with fresh vine, using wire to secure in place. (This will hide the lamp wire.)
Place small decorative elements in the basket to create your vignette. (I used ceramic animals, a small tea set and flowers.)
I like using vintage miniatures and flowers to create my basket scene. You could use any small items you have to create your little setting. Fresh vines make the lamp look natural; wrap the vines around the lamp base to disguise it. If you can't find a basket-lamp fixture in your hardware store, search the Internet for "basket-lamp kit."
When your miniature scene is complete, set the basket in the center of your table and plug it in so your scene is theatrically illuminated.
