More free stuff: Mars giving away chocolate

Restaurant chains and food companies have lately hit on a popular price point to reach cash-strapped consumers: Free.
The newest national handout program is also for consumers, not corporations. New Jersey-headquartered Mars Snackfood US has rolled out what it calls the "Real Chocolate Relief Act."
Through September, Mars will give away a quarter-million full-size packages of its chocolate treats on Free Chocolate Fridays. Americans can claim one of 250,000 full-value coupons each Friday by visiting RealChocolate.com.
Coupons will be mailed to consumers and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, a company statement said. The coupons are redeemable for any full-size Mars "real chocolate" product, including M&Ms, Snickers, Dove Chocolate, Twix, Milky Way and 3 Musketeers. Mars says the coupons will be limited to one per person, per week.
Chic-fil-A, El Pollo Loco and KFC all had free-food promotions in recent weeks. Frito-Lay, which is part of PepsiCo, just began adding 20 percent extra product to some of its bags of snack chips, at no additional charge.
