Just because Carnie Wilson is the host of "The Newlywed Game" doesn't mean her marriage is perfect.
"I've been married for nine years. I've experienced the ups and the downs, that pink cloud in the beginning (that) kind of fades out and then it becomes this beautiful companionship," says Wilson, whose "Newlywed" can be seen 6 p.m. EDT weekdays on GSN.
This new version isn't so different from the old one. Newly married couples are asked suggestive questions and hope to match answers to win cash and prizes. Usually their differing answers spur the comedy and a few fun fights.
Wilson can relate to the bickering part. She and her spouse have their moments.
"We bicker every single day," Wilson says. "That's just the way we are. It's been three days since we've bickered. That's a miracle for us, but it's usually a tone of voice that gets it started."
But, as experience has worked into their marriage, Wilson says she's learned many lessons. "I've learned to choose my battles," she says.
Having newlyweds play the game shapes how it's all done. "It would be a different show if we had people who were married 10 years instead of a couple (of years)."
As host, she's hoping to pry out more than just answers.
"I'm always digging for juice," she says, "but we need to keep it G-rated."
