TV: 'Krod Mandoon' humor a matter of taste

As far as production values are concerned, Comedy Central's "Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire" is the network's most ambitious series to date. But costumes and location shooting will only get the show so far.
The real question: Is it funny?
That depends on one's sense of humor. "Krod" (10 p.m. EDT Thursday) is reminiscent of Mel Brooks' later, more broad and less funny films (think: "Robin Hood: Men in Tights") as it follows insecure freedom fighter Krod (the appealing Sean Maguire from CBS's one-season wonder, "The Class") and his band of misfits as they journey through an ancient kingdom attempting to overthrow evil, self-absorbed Chancellor Dongalor (Matt Lucas, "Little Britain").
It's the kind of show that names a character Horst Draper, which, when said aloud, sounds like "horse raper." Additional humor is of the anachronistic variety, such as Krod's self-introduction, "Can I have your attention, I'm Krod Mandoon. I'll be your liberator this evening."
Sex jokes abound in "Krod," which generally avoids subtle humor but elicits at least a few laughs. The series begins with a one-hour premiere; subsequent episodes will be 30 minutes.
