For even the most ardent Obama opponents, this issue was settled during the campaign when the candidates posted his birth certificate on his Web site showing that he was born in Hawaii, and not Kenya as alleged, and Hawaii state officials vouched for the authenticity of the document.
U.S. District Judge James Robertson, showing refreshing proof that the cause of common sense is not totally dead in our judicial system, had had enough and threw out one such suit, saying, "This case, if it were allowed to proceed, would deserve mention in one of those books that seek to prove the law is foolish and that America has too many lawyers with not enough to do."
He noted that over the two years of the Obama campaign the issue of his citizenship "was raised, vetted, blogged, texted, twittered and otherwise massaged by America's vigilant citizenry" without ever producing a shred of evidence that he was anything but natural born.
Robertson ordered the plaintiff's attorney to show cause why he shouldn't have to pay Obama's legal fees for filing a frivolous and harassing case. The prospect of having to part with actual cash may serve to get these cases out of the courtroom and back in wing nut land where they belong.

This article is so full of misrepresentations it is difficult to decide to begin. First, the State of Hawaii in a very narrowly drawn statement has only said that they are holding the original vault birth certificate. They did not disclose if it was issued in Kenya or not. The State of Hawaii has not "verified" the authenticity of the document release by Obama. That was done by factcheck, a pro-Obama website. The State did confirm that they are holding the original vault birth certificate, but that they cannot release it without Obama's release or a court order. Keep in mind that under the laws at the time of Obama's birth anyone could walk in off the street and register a baby on their own word, even if the baby was born outside the US. The laws changed in 1972 to require witnesses, verifications,etc. Obama's sister was born in Indonesia and her parents registered her in Honolulu in the same fashion.
Obama has clearly stated that he was born in a hospital in Hawaii. The name of the hospital, doctors and witnesses only appear on the certified copy of his birth certificate. Obama could sign a release, pay $10.00 and produce it but so far has refused to do so. Read pages 7-11:

Note that the State of Hawaii does not accept the Certification of Live Birth produced by Obama for this program. As in this case, further inquiry is needed to confirm that the birth took place in Honolulu.

The Federal Judge was criticizing the legal theory used. In none of these cases has a judge actually allowed discovery to take place so this question could be answered openly and transparently, sounds familiar? As in all of the cases, this case was dismissed on a legal technicality and not on production of documents such as the birth certificate, school records, selective service records, etc. All of these records have been successfully blocked by Obama's team of attorneys.
The case filed by Alan Keyes is progressing in Sacramento Superior Court. Visit their website and go to services, change the year to 2008 and enter case 80000096. Read the complaint as it lays out the issues decently. Keyes has served a subpoena on Occidental College and we may see if Obama registered as a foreign exchange student or Muslim. Andy Martin is appealing his case in Hawaii seeking production of the original vault birth certificate. Other cases by military personnel are being filed.
It would seem easier if Obama and the Democratic Committee had properly vetted Obama before the primaries as Hillary asked to avoid this debacle. But both Obama and the Democratic Party are more concerned about themselves than the Country. As Obama's eligibility was never confirmed, citizens have taken to the courts to protect the Constitution.

One of the more ridiculous aspects of this conspiracy theory is the fact that travel documents show that Barack Obama Sr left Kenya in 1960 and did not return until 1965. But somehow we're expected to believe that a young, white pregnant American girl leaves the comfort of her parents home in Hawaii, to travel alone (without her husband) to give birth in Kenya (among strangers and without her husband there) in 1961 at the height of the Mau Mau rebellion. Justice Gray thoroughly discussed the definition of "natural born citizen" in his review of the Minor case. The Supreme Court in Minor adopted the Laws of Nations definition of "natural born citizen" as being a person born in the United States to "citizen parents" -- this definition does not include Mr. Barack H. Obama, Jr., because his father was not a United States Citizen.
Mr. Obama's father was a Citizen of Kenya and a British Subject and not a Citizen of the United States. Therefore, Mr. Barack H. Obama, Jr. can not meet our Constitutional requirement of a "Natural Born Citizen" of the United States and is not eligible to be the President.

What's more, many of these frivolous suits have been filed against Secretaries of State, and not President Obama.
Obama keeps a battery of lawyers on retainer for annoyances like this. Who knows how much they have charged? I somehow doubt it's reached six figures.
So why won't Obama release his long form? Does Hawaii even make the long form available? Why would they? The short-form COLB is a prima facie document of the birth certificate on file. You're right: This isn't costing Obama anything really
As a legal assistant, I assure you that Obama most likely has only a couple lawyers tops, on a yearly retainer of far less than 6 figures to deal with annoyances like this all year long. He'd be paying this fee regardless, because any public figure has to pay to keep the kooks away. Until one of these cases is actually accepted and goes to court, basically very little money is spent by Obama's legal counsel. They file routine objections that cost about $30 to process and they show up in court, if it gets that far. That's about $300 of their time total per case (provided they actually have to show up). The onus is on the other side to offer hard proof (and coherent legal argument) in order for these cases to be considered. And, I guarantee you, that Obama knows little to nothing about any of these cases at all. It's his lawyers' duty to "gatekeep" for him -- they won't bother him unless something real comes along that's actually going forward. Not even an email. That's what they're paid for (and they don't want to be accused of overbilling). This way he can focus on the job at hand and they can take care of the wackos for him. I hope it keeps up, though. It's a source of much merriment here at the firm.

Everyone else had parents that were naturalized (made citizens) prior to their birth. Had Obama's father become a citizen prior to his birth then there wouldn't be any question about if he's an NBC. Take the time to actually educate yourself about the differing levels of citizenship, what they mean and how they might affect you and your children. You might actually learn something.

Incidentally, unlike reports of alien abductions, the veracity of Obama's claims to natural-born citizenship can be laid to rest in a heartbeat. All he needs do is release his birth certificate. Hawaii's computer generated short form birth certificate is accepted by Hawaii for everything needing proof of birth in Hawaii. It is not accepted by the Hawaiian Home Lands program for proof of native Hawaiian ancestry: "native Hawaiian, defined as "any descendant of not less than one-half part of the blood of the races inhabiting the Hawaiian Islands previous to 1778."
Since Obama is not applying for the Home Lands program on the basis of being 50% native Hawaiian, the difference between the certificates is moot.
