Ask Carley: Keeping children occupied during the ceremony

Q. We're having a lot of kids at our wedding. What are some good ideas to keep them occupied during the ceremony?
A. Keep 'em busy. To prevent boredom and meltdowns, have a kid-friendly area set up in the reception hall. Start with a low table and kid-sized chairs to make their seats accessible and comfortable. Cover the table with a paper tablecloth and provide crayons for them to draw with. At each chair, set up a "kid kit" complete with coloring books, puzzles and other fun toys.
Another great way to keep them happy is to feed them. Instead of steaks and veggies like the adults are having, serve chicken nuggets, mac 'n' cheese and other favorites, with juice boxes to wash it all down. They'll love that they have their own space.
