What to do about a 'total downer' maid of honor

Q: My maid of honor is a total downer and keeps criticizing every decision I make. Can I ask her to step down?
A: She's obviously a close friend, so unless she did something completely unforgivable, asking her to step down is a last resort.
It's possible that she doesn't even realize she's hurting your feelings. Take the time to sit down with her and let her know how you feel, and find out if there's anything going on in her life that she hasn't told you about. You never know; she might be dealing with her own drama.
Another option is to stop dishing every little detail to her. She can't criticize something she doesn't know about, right? Unfortunately, if there's still a problem, then asking her to step down might be the only option. The last thing you need on your wedding day is a cranky maid of honor.
