Saying no to your future mother-in-law's veil

Q: My future mother-in-law offered to give me her veil. How do I let her know I don't want to wear it without hurting her feelings?
A. You have a few options here. If you're not planning to wear a veil, you have an easy out; just let her know that's why you're not borrowing hers. If you are wearing a veil, the best thing to do is be honest. Tell her that you appreciate the offer, but you already have your heart set on a veil that matches your dress perfectly. After you explain that you already have a veil, mention something else you could really use, like an heirloom broach for your bouquet wrap, or a "something blue" whether it's a hairpin or gemstone bracelet. She might have just the thing!
