With barely a month before the 74th Heisman Trophy is awarded in New York, the Big 12 Conference has a stranglehold on the race.With no movement from last week's Scripps Howard News Service Heisman Trophy poll, Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell remains in first place, pacing four Big 12 players in the top five. After carving up Oklahoma State with six touchdown passes Saturday night in a 56-20 romp, Harrell earned seven first-place votes (two more than last week) and now holds a commanding 10-point lead over Texas QB Colt McCoy, who earned two of the other three first-place votes.Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford is third and his fifth-ranked Sooners could shake up the race when they host Harrell and second-ranked Texas Tech on Nov. 22. Last year's Heisman winner, QB Tim Tebow of Florida is in fourth place netting the final first-place vote with Harrell's teammate, wide receiver Michael Crabtree, remaining in fifth.Compiled by The Rocky Mountain News in Denver, the Scripps poll is in its 22nd year, making it the longest-running weekly Heisman ranking in the country. The final poll, taken in December, has predicted the Heisman winner correctly in 18 of the previous 21 seasons. Ten voters select five players each week.
