Q: I don't want to be caked in makeup on my wedding day, but I can't go completely bare, either. What colors can I use to enhance my features without looking overdone?A: The au-naturel look is always a solid choice for a bride, so you have good taste! When it comes to picking the right neutrals, a lot depends on your skin tone. For pale skin, try mixing light pinks with soft browns. If you have a darker complexion, go with deeper brown and bronze hues.Applying a thin layer of shimmering eye shadow is a great way to add a little glam to your look, but use sparingly. Too much shine can come off looking greasy in photographs.(Carley Roney, co-founder and editor in chief of The Knot, the nation's leading wedding resource, advises millions of brides on modern wedding etiquette at www.theknot.com.)(Distributed by Scripps Howard News Service, http://www.scrippsnews.com)

DIY bridal makeup
To avoid looking caked in makeup I suggest that you start by preparing your skin with a moisturizer and/or makeup primer. This will allow your makeup to glide on your skin smoothly.
Next, apply a thin, even amount of your makeup base all over your face, even under your eyes. Then apply a second layer of the base, or a concealer, only where you would like extra coverage, such as under your eyes or on a blemish. Set this with a light dusting of loose powder and you are on your way to a fresh and flawless look.
As for your makeup color choice and not looking overdone, I suggest that you look on bridal websites and magazines for images of makeup looks that you are drawn to and comfortable with. Focus on those models that have similar coloring to you. And then practice, practice, practice!
The most important thing to remember when applying your makeup is to start out lightly. It is much easier to add a bit more makeup than it is to take away too much.
