It also has one of the most stringent definitions of truancy, saying it's an unexcused absence "for at least one class period during the school day." Interesting article about the link between attendance and truancy laws. New Jersey's Assembly just passing a bill to raise the mandatory attendance age to 18 and similar efforts have been seen this year in other states.
