Romney's Utah backers still tossing money his way

Mitt Romney no longer is a presidential candidate, but Utah voters still are tossing money his way -- even after forking over more than $5.5 million for his failed White House bid. Utah is the second largest state for individual donations to Romney's Free and Strong America political-action committee, with Utah donors kicking in about $243,000 to the former Massachusetts governor who dropped out of the presidential race in February. Only Massachusetts residents gave more with more than $270,000 in donations, Federal Election Commission filings show. Utah has been one of Romney's best cash cows. The Beehive State backed the head of Salt Lake City's 2002 Winter Olympics to the tune of some $5.5 million when he was seeking the Oval Office, second only to California, which sent $8 million Romney's way. Romney has amassed nearly $2 million overall with the PAC, which he has used to pay for staff, to spread cash to Republican candidates and to pay for travel to events around the country.
