People who make a habit of running to work offered these tips on how to navigate the commute. - If you don't have shower and locker facilities at work, there might be a nearby health club where you can shower and change - providing you are a member. If not, there's always this stopgap: the company's restroom sink. - Try to chart out a course from home to work that steers away from major traffic arteries and numerous stoplights. It may make the trip longer but less frustrating. - Change your route occasionally, adding miles, so you don't get in a rut. - Plan ahead: Bring a week's worth of work clothes if you have a company locker room. Also, stock up on breakfast food to eat after the morning run to the office. - Hydrate well before and during the afternoon or early evening return run to deal with the rising temperature throughout the day. - Wear reflective clothing and even a visor lamp if running before dawn or after dusk. Both are possibilities after the time change in early November. - Scope out all the public drinking fountains or runner-friendly fast-food spots and cafes that might provide free water along the route. - Always bring money with you on the run in case you run out of water or need some instant carbs.
