The 2008 World Series by the numbers:-- 1: World championship won by the Philadelphia Phillies, fewest of any of the 16 original teams. The Cubs and Indians have won only two each.-- 2: Phillies players were in the big leagues in 1993, the last time Philadelphia was in the World Series -- pitcher Jamie Moyer and outfielder Matt Stairs. Moyer was pitching for Baltimore then while Stairs was a rookie with the Montreal Expos.-- 3: Teams never have played in a World Series -- the Seattle Mariners, Expos/Washington Nationals and Washington Senators/Texas Rangers.-- 4: Wins for the Phillies in 15 interleague games in 2008. Only San Diego (3-15) had a worse interleague record. The Tampa Bay Rays, meanwhile, were 12-6 against NL teams in the regular season.-- 5: Rays players that had been in the postseason before this year, including two who were on world championship teams -- Cliff Floyd (1997 Marlins) and Troy Percival (2002 Angels). Dan Wheeler played for Houston in the 2004 and 2005 postseasons; Chad Bradford was with the White Sox in 2000, Oakland in 2001, 2002 and 2003, Boston in 2005 and the Mets in 2006. Jason Bartlett was with the Twins in 2006.-- 6: NL teams that have not appeared in the World Series since the Phillies' last appearance in 1993 - Expos/Nationals, Cubs, Brewers, Pirates, Reds and Dodgers.-- 7: Teams that have won their first world championship in the past 40 years -- Mets (1969), Phillies (1980), Royals (1985), Blue Jays (1992), Marlins (1997), Diamondbacks (2001) and Angels (2002).-- 8: Teams created by expansion have not won a world championship -- Rays, Mariners, Brewers, Expos, Padres, Astros, Rangers and Rockies.(Tracy Ringolsby writes for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, Colo.
