Week 3 NFL Capsules

Capsule previews for Week 3 action around the NFL. All times Eastern.SUNDAY:Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) at New York Giants (2-0), 1 p.m.Nobody has beaten the Giants since the Patriots in the final game of the 2007 regular season. The Bengals won't do it, either. They Ocho stink-o.PREDICTION: Giants, 38-13Houston Texans (0-1) at Tennessee Titans (2-0), 1.The Texans got an unscheduled week off because of Hurricane Ike. They might need it against the Titans, who have won the past six meetings and are better off without Vince Young.PREDICTION: Titans, 30-10Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) at Atlanta Falcons (1-1), 1.The winless Chiefs are starting a pair of rookie cornerbacks against the Falcons and their rookie quarterback, Matt Ryan. They better hope they can tackle Michael Turner. Falcons, 27-9Oakland Raiders (1-1) at Buffalo Bills (2-0), 1.For one week, anyway, the Raiders finally looked like -- dare we say -- a professional football team. That won't last long against the Bills, a team that is looking like -- dare we say -- a playoff team.PREDICTION: Bills, 24-6Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1) at Chicago Bears (1-1), 1.After two road games, the Bears return home as a team showing some of the same characteristics as their 2006 unit. Their backup QB then? The one who starts for Tampa Bay -- Brian Griese.PREDICTION: Bears, 17-13 Carolina Panthers (2-0) at Minnesota Vikings (0-2), 1.Only three of the 43 teams who have started 0-2 in the past five years have made the playoffs. The Vikings have some work to do against the Panthers, who know how to provide last-play heroics.PREDICTION: Vikings, 20-17Miami Dolphins (0-2) at New England Patriots (2-0), 1.Even with Matt Cassel making his first start since high school, the Patriots extended their divisional winning streak to seven games. They will make it eight against the Dolphins.PREDICTION: Patriots, 30-3Arizona Cardinals (2-0) at Washington Redskins (1-1), 1.Talk about a drought in Arizona: The Cardinals haven't started 3-0 since 1974. But they have a chance to do so against the Redskins, a team that did a complete reversal in a week.PREDICTION: Redskins, 24-23New Orleans Saints (1-1) at Denver Broncos (2-0), 4:05 p.m. Even if he loses the rest of his game, Mike Shanahan should be coach of the year for his two-point decision against the Chargers. The Broncos have put up a league-best 80 points in two games.PREDICTION: Broncos, 34-24Detroit Lions (0-2) at San Francisco 49ers (1-1), 4:05. Heavens to J.T. O'Sullivan, the 49ers offense has come to life under coordinator Mike Martz. Think it means anything that O'Sullivan and Martz are former members of the Lions?PREDICTION: 49ers, 34-20St. Louis Rams (0-2) at Seattle Seahawks (0-2), 4:05.Maybe the biggest shocker of the NFL season is that Seattle's allegedly strong defense has given up 67 points. Only two teams have given up more. One of them is the inept Rams.PREDICTION: Seahawks, 34-9Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) at Philadelphia Eagles (1-1), 4:15.The Steelers are 3-5 in their last eight road games and haven't won in Philadelphia since 1965, before Coach Mike Tomlin was born. The Eagles have scored 75 points in two games, second most in the NFL.PREDICTION: Eagles, 23-20Cleveland Browns (0-2) at Baltimore Ravens (1-0), 4:15.The good news for the Browns: They have won the past two meetings with the Ravens. The bad: Their offense has scored only 16 points in two games.PREDICTION: Browns, 16-13Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) at Indianapolis Colts (1-1), 4:15.The Colts offense is off to a sluggish start, producing just 31 points in two games. But the Jaguars have lost five of the past six meetings with the chief division rival.PREDICTION: Colts, 27-13Dallas Cowboys (2-0) at Green Bay Packers (2-0), 8:15 p.m.Thought the Monday night game with the Eagles was an OK Corral shootout? This could be right up there. Don't discount the Packers, who have won 19 of their past 22.PREDICTION: Packers, 34-31MONDAY NIGHTNew York Jets (1-1) at San Diego Chargers (0-2), 8:30 p.m.Is it possible for a team to have three last-second losses in a row? The Chargers have already had to endure two, thanks to referee Ed Hochuli.PREDICTION: Chargers, 33-21(Distributed by Scripps Howard News Service, www.scrippsnews.com.)
