Dear Babe: I have an autographed poster from the June 23, 1986, Old-Timers baseball game played at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. It was sponsored by Budweiser. In previous years, the game had been sponsored by Cracker Jack. The autographs are authentic as I collected them myself. I was an official on the field and in the locker room. It is signed by Elroy Face, Bob Feller, Hoyt Wilhelm, Joe DiMaggio, Ralph Houk, Al Kaline, Willie Mays, Bob Doerr, Lou Brock, Jim "Catfish'' Hunter, Tony Oliva, Whitey Ford, Early Wynn, Larry Doby, Rocky Colavito, Tom Tresh, Tug McGraw, Willie Stargell, Dick Groat, Warren Spahn, Bill Mazeroski, Lindy McDaniel, Billy Herman and three more that I cannot read. The piece is in mint condition. The 12x16 poster has been dry-mounted and is now framed. -- R. House, Lake Elsinore, Calif."For a theme collector, the value might be $300-$500,'' said Mike Gutierrez, consignment director for Heritage Auctions (www.ha.com) in Dallas. You have to have someone who likes old-timers, since there's a mix of Hall of Famers along with former players.Dear Babe: I have a number of golf cards that I had autographed by many players at professional tournaments that I have attended over the years. I have Pro Set cards signed by Payne Stewart, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tom Watson and many others. I have a Grand Slam Ventures Champions of Golf Masters card signed by Tiger Woods. -- Paul Hjulberg, Riverside, Calif."The cards will go at all levels,'' said Mike Breeden, an autograph expert and editor of Tuff Stuff's autograph guide. "Woods would bring $200-$300. Stewart would likely bring the same or possibly more, especially if someone is trying to complete the signed set. Nicklaus would be around $100. I'd put Watson at $40-50 and Player at $30-$40.Breeden said most other others would be worth around $20 each.''Dear Babe: While rummaging through a box of family photos, I discovered an 8-x-10 photo of Stan Musial with a facsimile signature. The photo was in an envelope that said "Presented with the compliments of the St. Louis Cardinals to the fans who attended Stan's last game as an active player.'' The envelope is dated Sept. 29, 1964. -- Clint Campbell, McDonough, Ga.Musial is one of the all-time greats, but he has been a Hall of Famer throughout the entire autograph boom of the past two decades. And he has been a gracious and active signer. That all adds up to his signed photos being worth just $60, according to Tuff Stuff's autograph guide. This photo with a facsimile signature might be worth $5-$10.BABE NOTE: Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have a lot more in common than just being the two stars who helped put USA basketball back atop the world stage when they led The Redeem Team to Olympic gold in Beijing. The two stars also happen to be under exclusive contract to Upper Deck, which means only UD products will have autographed cards of the stars. In fact, 2008-09 MVP Basketball will include an insert featuring the autographs of both of Upper Deck's exclusive stars. In addition, all of the stars of the "Redeem Team'' will be featured in 2008-09 Upper Deck Series One Basketball (Sept. 2 release), 2008-09 MVP Basketball (Sept. 30) and the 2008-09 Hot Prospects Basketball (Oct. 14). The products will include limited-edition insert cards of all of the "Redeem Team'' players along with game-used and autograph cards of many of the players in addition to Bryant and James.(Send card questions to Babe Waxpak, PO Box 492397, Redding, CA 96049-2397 or e-mail babewaxpak(at)charter.net.
