A continuing compendium of tips and tricks from Home & Garden Television:
Here's a quiz to help you determine what type of tile is best for your house:
Q: My living room and dining room are:
A. Formal and lovely, used mostly for entertainment
B. Casual enough for the kids to hang out and play
Q: When it comes to sealing tile, I don't mind having it done:
A. At least once a year
B. Maybe once, but after that I'd rather spend my time and money other ways.
Q: This best describes my tile budget:
A.: $10 a square foot or more
B. $3 to $9 a square foot.
If you answered "A" to the above questions, you are a high-end buyer. Your best tiles are high-end but require high maintenance. Look at marble, granite or glass.
If you answered "B" to the above questions, you can get budget-friendly tiles. For gorgeous, low-maintenance tiles on a budget, go for ceramic, porcelain and slate.
