Helen Rhine was 16 when she saw a UFO in Amarillo, Texas.She had just finished watching a lunar eclipse at 2 a.m. one day in 1958. Suddenly, she saw three lights traveling swiftly and silently in a V shape across the sky."I was instantly terrified," said Rhine, now 66 and a retired software engineer in Wylie, Texas.Rhine's story is hardly unique.A survey conducted by the Scripps Howard News Service and the University of Ohio found that about eight percent of Americans say they have seen a mysterious object in the sky that might have been a visitor from another world.Earlier this year, Marshall Franks of Gulf Breeze, Fla. was at a neighbor's house when he took pictures of an unusual rain cloud passing overhead. When Franks, a 52-year-old musician, uploaded pictures of the clouds to his computer, he noticed three orange, pill-shaped objects in a V formation.Survey respondents said they saw objects in the shape of lighted orbs, hovering without making any noise, either alone or in V formations."I just know I got a picture of something strange," Franks said. "I'm not going to say it's anything, but I'd like to have some professional's opinion."Franks said he believes the government has withheld information about mysterious incidents.He sent his photos to the Pensacola News Journal, but otherwise only told a few close friends about his experience.Some respondents, like 53-year-old Mai-Janne Merklein, feel uncomfortable sharing their stories with others, fearing they'll think they're crazy.The school bus driver from Springfield, Mass. said she twice saw floating orbs, the first in 1980 outside Dover, Del. when she and three friends pulled their car over to switch drivers. They noticed a vaguely spherical orb of light moving overhead; it hovered silently then quickly flew away. "When I told my father, he said it was probably a military something or other. I didn't argue," she said.On another occasion, while hiking with a friend in Holyoke, Mass., Merklein saw a similar object.Rhine said she didn't tell anyone her story until nearly forty years later, when her half-brother said he also had an experience he believes was extraterrestrial.He was in Amarillo when an extremely bright white light began pouring into his friend's home. Peering out a picture window to investigate, Rhine's half-brother and his friend saw the silhouette of a humanoid creature, just over four feet tall with a large cranium out of proportion with its small frame. Before summoning enough courage to open the door, Rhine said, the light had disappeared.Rhine said she is no longer afraid to tell her story."I don't have any reservations now; I'm old," she said.The survey revealed that people living in rural areas of the country or in suburbs were twice as likely than urban dwellers to report UFOs. Some respondents said this might be due to light pollution in urban centers blocking the night sky.Still, seeing isn't necessarily believing. Respondents like 69-year-old Lindsey Ivey of Ellijay, Ga. aren't convinced their sightings are actually extraterrestrial.Ivey said on two occasions he saw four mysterious lights hovering in a T shape near his former home in Daytona Beach, Fla.Despite this, Ivey does not believe intelligent life exists beyond earth, partly because of his Christian faith and also since he believes there are too many circumstances needed for a planet to support life."If God had made another planet, it would have to have the right amount of oxygen and things like that," Ivey said. "Could there be life out there? There could, but that would have to be proven to me."The survey revealed that people who have attended church recently are also about a third less likely to report having seen a UFO.Ivey said he believes students at nearby Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University caused the lights.Robert Garner, a 62-year-old safety-training supervisor in Nesbit, Miss., isn't sure if his experience was extraterrestrial or divine.He was deer hunting before sunrise one December morning in 1995 when the wooded area around him suddenly became brightly illuminated for about seven seconds before returning to normal. He said he never saw any object or source of the light."There was no sound, no shaking, no movement; all of a sudden, it was as if someone just turned on a light, this beautiful green, golden color," he said. "It was either an angel, or a UFO came down and took a picture of us."Garner said for weeks after the incident he no longer needed his glasses to see.Not all encounters with UFOs are so isolated.On March 13, 1997, Fran Chodacki, a 62-year-old Page, Ariz. resident was one of thousands who witnessed the "Phoenix Lights," a mile-wide V-shaped formation of lights visible over Phoenix. The lights reportedly moved slowly across the city's skyline for about three hours. Chodacki was living in nearby Scottsdale, Ariz. at the time.She said she does believe aliens exist and have visited the Earth. But she's not sure if her sighting was extraterrestrial."Maybe it was a military thing; I don't know. Everything is mysterious in this world," she said. I'm not sure what to make of
I'm not sure what to make of the UFO phenomenon. But my mother is a stalwart of the community, and has been for many years. You could not possibly hope to talk to a more straight forward person. No delusions or illusions here. She saw a UFO once. She's not inclined to tell about it, she seems afraid of ridicule. But she said it was a cigar shaped metallic looking object hovering in the sky. Why would someone so disinclined to exaggerate say something like that?
The UFO phenomenon
The UFO phenomenon is well documented. The existence of the phenomenon is undeniable: sane people see stuff in the sky. Our young science has no explanation. This is not news of course ("We don't know" does not sell) but it is the truth.

The Truth
There are over 4,000 trace cases associated with UFOs and many cases of UFOs displaying properties of technology not available as of yet to the human race. Remember all you need is one case to be true to prove that we are engaged with extra-terrestrials. UFO
In 1979 just after sunset I was traveling south on Route 4 in Springdale,Ohio.I was getting onto the entrance ramp of 275 East
as I pulled onto the Interstate I noticed that several cars were
pulled over to the side of the road. For no reason I pulled over.
I got out of my car and walked to the bridge side over route 4,
and walked up to a man with a camera. I asked what was going on
he pointed to the Sky over the Western section of Springdale. I
saw a very large orb hovering above that section of the town. I
heard no noise. I watched for about 3 or 4 minutes and it left.
Then I turned to the man and asked if he had gotten any pictures.
He answered yes. I said I would pay him to send me copies of the
pictures. He agreed but I never received any thing from him. I
would like to say that while the UFO was hovering over that part
of town that it was like I and everything around me was frozen
in a time warp. I left the scene with a very nice warm feeling.
The next day I met a very Beautiful Lady. This Lady is now my
wife and has been for twenty eight years. I was talking one day
with her about what I had seen and she had also seen the same
thing only from a different place around 20 miles from where I
was.Her or I have never heard anything about it since. I can say
that it was very large,easy to see,side windows and all.It was
almost like the body of the craft was revolving and the windows
where not moving.I could not see any movement in the craft.
The weather was warm that evening but while
I was watching the craft there was no warmth, no cold and no breeze.
The weather was perfect in every detail.This craft did not speed
away it just vanished in front of me and the others standing there.

I have witnessed three ufos since 1998 - The first easily one mile or more wide, my second was a close encounter, an alien craft 120 feet long and 40 feet wide missing the roof of our home by a few feet!

sighting
About 8 years ago i was on way home at 2am i pulled up into my street its a dead end street
and i drove up to my home parked looked up the end of the road
i seen out of my front windscreen
about 8 lights they were about 300 meters away 3/4 up a 50 ft gum tree
i watch them for about 4 mins sitting in my car then i got out of car and stood in the middle of the rd
i stood there for about 5 mins and i thought to myself if you ain't going to move so either will i
then the lights floated out of the tree they flew towards me very slowly
there was no noise come from them they were all about 15 feet apart
when they got about 40 feet away 30 feet in the air they looked like 8 flames
all about a foot long with a 2ft golden glow around them
they floated over the top of me they had a calming affect to them
they kept floating up the road about 50 feet then they started getting higher
they got to about 200 feet in air and then 1 after the other they went out vanished then i went in my home i live in sydney aus
UFO sighting
It occurs to me that the most likely explanation for Garner's experience – the bright light that surrounded him in the woods while hunting at night – would have been the light from a relatively large meteor (or even a piece of earth-made space junk) burning up overhead.
If so, one could predict two things: 1) this should have been a widely-observed event and written up in a meteor catalogue somewhere, in which case we would need to know the date, time and location; 2) In Garner's observation, the shadows around him should have moved inversely to the meteor's passage overhead. (This of course would apply to any moving overhead light source, natural or artificial.)
The duration is rather long, but slow-moving meteors have been known to last several seconds. The green color of the light could have been caused by copper compounds in the meteor.
Admittedly, this doesn't explain the reported change in his vision, but was this subjective or confirmed by an opthalmologist or optometrist?

My sons and I where watching jets create a (tic tac toe) chem trail design in the skies over baltimore one-day and notices something else flying behind the plane keeping the same speed and distance for the entire time we were able to view it.a silver long tube shape vehicle with no wings. The second sighting we saw was a round saucer shaped ufo the same day and we were excited about it but told no one or called no one about it.....It was amazing

My story
I've only told 3 people about my story because i am just to embarrassed and afraid people will think I'm a psycho. I assure you i am very healthy and this really happened to me, so if you don't believe me just keep nasty comments to yourself.
That's why i want to be anonymous.
When i was four years old i saw an alien. I was sleeping in the same room as my mother and i remember this very clearly.
It was late at night and i woke up because someone opened the sliding door to our bedroom. My mom didn't wake up, here bed was a little further away than mine. I remember this creature came in and it didn't walk.. it kind of "floated" or i don't know.."rolled on wheels" in.. It was so smooth. I had never seen the movie ET in my life but it looked very similar. It was medium tall very thin, big eyes, silent, and wearing a robe (i live very north and here it is cold so maybe it was to stay warm) I got very frightened and i don't know why, but the first thing that came into my mind was to pretend i was a machine so it wouldn't hurt me(it sounds very silly i know).. I sticked out my arms and legs trying to deceive this creature that had entered my room. I hid under my duvet and i didn't see anything but i felt it. To me it was black, overwhelming and powerful, standing there over me. Then I felt that few hairs were picked out of my head! i don't remember anything after that but the next day something orange was crawling in between my mattress and my "wooden bed frame" ( i don't know the English word for it sorry). I told my mom and she was very shocked, later i drew a few pictures of it for her also..
I am really really curious about what this incident was and i really want to find answers.. it really haunts my mind. Can somebody help me with this? (the answer " you are mad" or something like this doesn't help at all.)
