Wedding-day travels

Q: The nearest reception venue from our ceremony site is 30 minutes away. Can we ask our guests to travel the distance?A: A general rule of thumb is to keep travel time to less than 30 minutes between the ceremony and reception. That said, the travel time between venues depends on the area. You should be OK asking guests to take a 30-minute drive to the reception if you live in a more rural area. For a city venue, however, you risk facing major delays because of traffic, which could cut into your reception time. In this case, you'd be better off choosing a ceremony spot that's closer to your reception site. Even better, look into renting a large luxury bus to transport guests to and from the reception to ensure smooth travels.(Carley Roney, co-founder and editor in chief of The Knot, the nation's leading wedding resource, advises millions of brides on modern wedding etiquette at www.theknot.com.)(Distributed by Scripps Howard News Service, http://www.scrippsnews.com)
