Like the Lady Marian she plays, actress Lucy Griffiths enjoys being in the background."The celebrity thing is a choice you make," says Griffiths, who co-stars in "Robin Hood" (9 p.m. EDT Saturdays, BBC America). "To a certain extent, it's good to get your face out there because it does help you get roles ... but the other side is too much self-publicizing, which can work against you in another way."When an actress is known more for being famous than the roles she plays, she can find herself without much of a career, Griffiths says.Griffiths was an unknown actress when she landed the role of the swashbuckling Marian in the popular British series. At age 18, she auditioned for the part. After earning it, her face turned up each week in millions of homes in Great Britain and the United States. Now, at age 20 and following two successful seasons of "Robin Hood," she's carefully plotting how to present herself. She's eyeing a career beyond the series and guarding against being just another pretty face on the tube. She doesn't like to stay out late or go to many parties. She says she doesn't have a steady beau, though she has "many male friends." Griffiths chooses to live south of London, away from the spotlight. In many ways, Marian is much more social and aggressive than the woman who portrays her."It's quite tempting to go out to parties and have all that attention," she says. "I'm sure I would enjoy it for a couple of weeks. After that, it would drive me a bit nuts."Marian, on the other hand, would have a different take. As the folklore suggests, she's a lady of privilege, rubbing elbows with the elite on many occasions. However, in this retelling of the "Robin Hood" legend, she's no damsel in distress.Marian joins Robin Hood in his fight against the tyranny of the rich. She disguises herself, jumps on a horse and handles swords and bows with ease. She's not about to sit around and be rescued."It makes sense for her," Griffiths says. "She's the only woman living in a man's world. It makes sense she has a tough outer layer."Such an adventurous demeanor isn't something Griffiths was prepared for. Between the first and second seasons of "Robin Hood," she took riding lessons and learned how to look comfortable wielding weapons.During the first season, a stunt double did her riding. "It was too dangerous to put me on a horse," she says.Griffiths still doesn't do her own fighting. "The way the filming schedule works, we don't have a lot of time to do all our scenes," she says. So, if close-ups are not required for scenes, doubles are often used, she says. "It saves time," Griffiths says.Horseback riding intimidated her. "We never really had animals at home," says the city girl. "We only had two cats."And like Marian, Griffiths doesn't use her status to get her way. "My father would kill me if I did that," she says with a laugh."That's not to say that someday I won't. It just means that is not the way I am doing it now."(E-mail Terry Morrow of The Knoxville News-Sentinel in Tennessee at morrow2(at)knews.com.)

THE site could by LYING!
Maybe those across the pond have a great publicity department and she lives! We are in a flurry and they are sitting there laughing at us gits who are chuffed about Marion.
I'm Healed!
Did anyone consider that maybe After Robin leaves, Djaq brings Marian in to attempt to heal her and miraculously Djaq saves her. And then Marian can come back to England with the King and have a happy reunion with her husband. Tada!
Maybe then Much can make his
Maybe then Much can make his move on Robin.

Saving Robin Hood
I agree that without Marian the bottom will drop out of the show. I was so taken aback by this ending, it had a feeling of surrealness especially with the hurried trip to the holy land and the near death experience. Do you think the whole sequence that follows them being tied up in the desert is a hallucination?
I could see the next season showing Robin's life over the next few years being entirely dedicated to his work and relentlessly crusading for justice while keeping his heart empty. Showing how much less of a man he is without her, eventually that could lead to another girl falling into his life that reminds his of his long lost love(becoming the Marian to his sad broken hearted C. Brandon if we were talking in terms of Jane Austen characters- I think the analogy fits anyway).
I hope they figure out a way to save this show
Marian Returning (Again)...
would be an incredible copout. As much a I hated this ending, the fact is that they already had her die (from Guy's poisoned blade) and return (thanks to Djaq's healing prowess). Robin went through the grief, rage, relief cycle. They CAN'T do that again - it would be awful writing!
Woe are we
Let's face it. Any of us who have watched this show religiously over the past year or two have enjoyed escaping into another time and place once a week and have been looking forward to the romantic fantasy happy ending, with the "knowledge" that somehow, someday, Marian and Robin would end up together. They could have dragged us along for another couple of years if Marian were still alive. This is like a slap in the face, bringing us back into reality - Hollywood calls, so goodbye fantasy ending. Thanks a lot, Lucy and the BBC, it's just the thing I needed to remind me that this is just a TV show and I should be spending that hour each week doing something more productive.
UR RIGHT. DOING THE SAME
UR RIGHT. DOING THE SAME THING OVER AGAIN WOULD BE A LITTLE MUCH! BUT I STILL DONT THINK THAT THERE CAN BE A ROBIN HOOD SHOW WITHOUT MARIAN!
I LOVE the Robin Hood series!! and i will continue to watch!!
i ABSOLUTELY love the series!!! I hated the ending at first, but then i realized that this is a great way to bring Marion back when Robin needs her advice or help with something. They can bring her back in a dream or as a ghost. I support the idea. What this scene also showed us is how much Robin and Marion loved each other, and that their love will never die.

ps-Congradulations on your success!! -to all the Robin Hood cast members and behind the scenes people.
Maid Marian is dead
Maybe she isn't dead. There was no blood. Robin didn't put her in the grave. You see the other guy is buried but not Marian. Why would Will and Djaq stay behind? Robin gives Will a nod and says, "Take care of her." Perhaps he meant Marion.
What do you think?
Robbinhood season three~Maid Marion....alive
Hello I strongly agree the Maid Marion must be alive...for her to die would be a tragedy both for the viewers and the ratings...all channels crave for....I can't see them letting this happen.....I think the route they should take....was that she was not well at all.....and that will and Djaq both stayed behind to care for her until she is well enough to return to the gang....and they kept the fact that she was not dead from everyone...due to not wanting Gisborne and the Sheriff to think she was still dead....and to worry about what Robin
was upto now as for revenge....plus he wanted Marion to remain safe and feared Gisborn.....or some of the other ones might try to locate her and kill her......let's hope anyway....I don't think I will like the show as much without her....and if she is really dead and they do not bring her back I am curious who they might try to hook Robin up with as a new Romantic interest....she would have to be both beautiful, stubborn, cheeky, and set in her own ways, she would need to be kind to everyone such as old people and children....very loyal, and to care for the poor & sick.....have admiration for Robinhood and all his gang has done....but at first not really like the way he is sort of overbearing with her...and so they would need to really argue with him alot in the beginning in order to achieve the level of tension between the two of them.....like he had with Marion...and even then it would depend on how the audience responds to her....if she is not well loved by the viewers...and she is not Marion...then the show is surely headed for doom...........the romance between Robinhood and Marion....and the friction of Gisborne loving her....and the tension it caused them all was very exciting.....and kept me and my whole family coming back every week to watch it.....we loved it....I really hope the writer's and actors can find a way to make us love it again....!!!!

I also love the series. It's really amazing story. בלוג סקס Robin the best!

robin hood - deleted from TIVO
Well, that sucked! Just watched the TIVO'd version of season 2 finale, where Marian dies. Absolutely horrible! I am so sick of this crap, I am deleting it from the TIVO! I have no plans to watch this again. Really… how can they have done that!! Hmpf!
*sigh*
The ruby ring was given to Robin by King Richard to use as a wedding ring sort of in the heat of the moment, but it's got a deeper significance. The ring itself would have been a symbol of the King's Majesty and something people would have bent their knee to. He would only have given it to someone he trusted completely and for the most part it would never have left his person. In his lifetime he gave it once to his mother (Eleanor of Aquitaine) and otherwise his Ring very rarely left his hand. Thing was, if he died in the holy lands, he could have sent his ring to the person he'd have trusted his kingdom to - in other words, he'd have sent the ring only to the person who would have succeeded him as King - and to take the ring, he'd have given it only to his MOST trusted person. Most Kings upon their death, though, were stripped of all jewelry, clothing, etc. Richard's own father, Henry II died stripped of all of his jewelry of State, clothes, etc. His brother, John (aka: Softsword and Lackland) was another who had pretty much nothing to be buried with but a sheet wrapped around him. People would always be more concerned for the next king, think of the saying, "The King is dead, long live the King." well, it's apparently relatively easy to be practical when it comes to kings and succession when you're facing the corpse of a king who is, after all, only a man and there's no-one else around and you have a family to feed and ooh, look at the gold rings and chains on him....and those velvets could be sold, too....no-one would miss them, so you take them and....yep, that's pretty much what would happen.
As for Robin Hood, I loved this show. Loved it. Loved the characters - from supporting to the main characters and found myself throwing the nearest thing I had at hand at the telly when I saw the finale of season 2. I hadn't read the spoilers, either. The ending came as a huge surprise to me. Yes, it's a twist, but I wonder if the writers/producers have considered what this could/has done to the show. Imagine then also going onto sites such as BBC America and finding that the fur is flying there as well and people are spreading rumors that Robin Hood Season 3 may not even be aired in the States. I love the show, love the characters, but not enough to be jerked around by the producers/writers. Life's too short...I'll read about them in books instead.
Is Marian coming back?
i really love robin hood and with no marian it will be pointless watching the show. i watched the last episode with my cousins and after the bombshell of an ending we all came to a conclusion that Marians death was faked, After all she was wearing a pearly white dress wich had not a spec of blood on it, and we never actually saw here get buried we saw her next to the open grave but she was never seen buried. personally i think that the last episode was just a dream of gisbournes or a mirage of robin's as what are deserts famous for, and robin would certinally think of the worst possible thing that could happen as he has just got engaged, and his fiance has been kidnaped, the sheriff is trying to kill the king and then to top it all off Marian gets stabbed.
I will watch the first and maybe second episode of season 3 but if there is no sighn of Marian's return id see no point in watching it, as after all robin and marians romance is what was keeping us glued to are tv sets!!!
I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree if Marian is dead there is completely no point of it. Whoever the Dierector is he better make her be ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
The lack of blood doesn't
The lack of blood doesn't mean much. The show's violence has always been pretty tame and I can't recall their ever showing any blood. I don't expect they'll bring Marianne back at all. To do it two seasons in a row would be awfully ridiculous. I expect season three will be the standard "let's look at the darker side of Robin now that he's broken-hearted and moody" type of season. That's not to say it will be bad. It's just usually where writers like to go with these sort of situations.
Robin Robin Robin
I wondered when I saw it, could there be some room for her to return, even if they did nearly a whole season without her. I really do not like the dream idea. But it is really unbelievable that Guy could kill her after everything he did to spare her. Just a bad bad ending unless we are in for some kind of surprise. I guess I will have to see where it goes, but no more redoing my schedule so as not to miss an episode.
In Mourning
I was shocked by the ending. I watched it twice to make sure it really happened. (did not read any previews). I LOVE this version of Robin Hood. Love all the cast members. Robin IS about the love of Marian and the people of England. How will he go on without her? I can't picture another woman coming into his life for a very, very long time. And would we hate her because she's not Lucy Griffiths? Now that 2 of Robin's gang members are staying in the Holy Land, a whole new cast would have to be introduced in season 3. I am very dissapointed in this ending but yes I will watch to see what season 3 has to offer.
Marian's Death- JUST THE BEGGINING
The producers of Robin Hood have announced that in the nail-biting finale of season Three. Robin. Will. DIE. It's True! check out the BBC Robin Hood Page on BBC.CO.UK and the first thing you'll see is a news page. check it out if you don't believe me. !!!!
Miss U Marian!!!!
contemplation
While I am very sad to say that I think Marian is actually dead (generally shows don't show little character montages after a character's death unless they are REALLY dead...), the only thing that actually give me hope is that in the BBC description of the final episode, it says that "Robin contemplates a future without Marian." There wasn't much "contemplation" in the final episode...unless it was ALL contemplation in the form of a dream or mirage...
Just a thought. I am a hopeless romantic ( emphasis on the hopeless!!) so until Season 3 starts, I am going to still cling to the little hope that Marian might return. Unfortunately, the BBC website says that new episodes won't air until 2009. What an awful long time to wait for an answer.:(
First they kill off Marion, now Robin is leaving after s3
I was completely shocked and felt so cheated when they killed off marion. I know this show is a modern retelling of the legend of Robin Hood but somethings are just sacred. Robin and Maid Marion are meant to be together. Robin's love for Marion and their interaction made the show for me. I hope the producers of the show are prepared for the drop of ratings over this. As if that isn't enough, the original robin is leaving after the end of season three. What are they going to do? bring in an older robin. What a waste of a show that had so much promise.
ahhhhhh
I cant believe it one of the reasons i kept watching this show was for that romance story of what would happen between Robin and Marian and now she is DEADDD. Although the couple never showed that much love they could at least as mentioned have one spicy sexy night. BBC for real you guys ruined the show there is no Robin Hood without Marian and i think you might have lost at least 1/3 of your viewers.
Sad in US
I hope Will and Qjaq stayed to take care of Marion and they wanted to keep the fact that she is alive from Guy and the Sheriff. Or as some have said this could have been a sun induced hullucination for Robin or Marion. One last thought on marriage for Robin and Marion. In others series when a couple marries you lose the sexual tension and the audiences interest in the interaction of the couple. So I don't see that coming until the end of the seies if you are going to keep Marion in the story. If she really did die I am very disappointed but Jonas Armstrong will keep me watching he is a great modern Robin.
Idiotic writers
the writers were stupid to kill her, killing off a main character is a big mistake ;l
Season 3? pfft..
Personally i don't see why they even bother in making a season 3 if marion is dead.
The Future of BBC's Robin Hood
www.imdb.com now has listed the thirteen episodes of Robin Hood season three as "in production." Unfortunately, Lucy Griffiths will not be starring in any of them.
Also, according to an interview on BBC's homepage, Robin Hood the show has been contracted for a fourth season, but Jonas Armstrong is resigning after the season three finale.
I can't imagine any show about the magnificent legend of Robin Hood without his Maid Marian. Not to mention one without a Robin of Locksley.
