A charitable alternative to wedding-guest favors

Q: In lieu of favors, we want to make a donation to our favorite charity in each guest's name. What's the best way to inform our guests that we've done this?A: There are several ways to let guests know that you've chosen to donate to a cause in place of a wedding favor. One solution is to add a note to the bottom of the escort card or ceremony program reading, "A donation has been made in your name to (insert favorite charity's name)."Or consider ordering or creating personalized donation cards. Some organizations, like the American Diabetes Association and the I Do Foundation, can create them for you. These cards are also a great way to explain why you've chosen the particular charity, whether it's to honor a deceased relative or celebrate a cause that you feel strongly about as a couple. You can put favor donation cards at each place setting with the menu, display them next to each table name or make an announcement during the toast portion of the evening.(Carley Roney, co-founder and editor in chief of The Knot, the nation's leading wedding resource, advises millions of brides on modern wedding etiquette at www.theknot.com.)(Distributed by Scripps Howard News Service, http://www.scrippsnews.com)

Dear Ms. Roney,

Regarding your article on the idofoundation, I’ve created a new fund raising initiative that will give 10 times more to charities.

After the couples get married, many of them buy a home together; on http://CommissionDonation.com there are a group of charitable sales people including realtors who will donate a part of their commission to the charity of the couple’s choice.

With real estate sales commission at $55 Billion this year, even 1% of that Can Be Hundreds of Millions of Dollars to Help Charities.

Instead of an average $100 item sale on idofoundation, we can be a $1 Million dollar home sale, so the donation to charities would be Thousands of Dollars More.

This is not to say we’re better in anyway, this is to say that we’re a continuation, after the wedding, couples can continue to give without cost via using a charitable salesperson, we are the offline version of the online charity malls because the bigger ticket items are mostly purchased offline.

It’s a win/win/win situation because the sales people are happy to get more buyers, the buyers get a larger tax deduction, the charities are happy to get thousands more, and everyone is happy to be helping the less fortunate and it doesn’t cost anyone anything other than what they would’ve purchased either way.

I started the Commission Donation Network because a volunteer at the local women’s help center wanted my help to find housing for a single mom with 2 children, I thought to myself that I would gladly give half my commission to the women’s help center for everyone they sent, the idea kept growing to include all commission based sales people worldwide helping charities.

After that I learned about the idofoundation and then your great article and then realized how we can be a great continuation of the 200,000 members to give 10 times more via the same shopping they would do either way, but they would use a charitiable sales person instead of a salesperson who keeps all of their commission.

Please help us help others by telling your readers about commissiondonation.com

Thank you very much

Sincerely

Just an idea...

The budget for a wedding is down to the last penny and everything is done to keep within this budget. Party favors for the guests are no exception. The wave of the future in wedding guest party favors are donations to numerous charities.

Think of all the wasted money and wasted time spent on party favors for your guests. Often these meticulously prepared treats and gifts are usually eaten and the beautiful trappings are discarded with yesterday's newspaper.

Why not use your party favor budget to donate to a charity of your choice. You may even consider donating to a charity of their choice, although making it individual take much more time.
