Dolly's on tap on 'Idol' ... Other shows of note

Don't expect Dolly Parton to be highly opinionated when she mentors the finalists on "American Idol" Tuesday night."To tell someone that they are good or they are bad or they stink or they suck, I couldn't handle that," she said in a recent interview. As the first of four superstar guest mentors on the show this season, Parton will bring her sass, her glitter and her hits to "Idol" (8 p.m. EDT Tuesday and 9 p.m. Wednesday, Fox) when she has face time with the finalists. For her part, Parton will be coaching the singers as they prepare to do a night of her hits.As mentor, she will instruct them on what song and style might suit them best. It would be hard to imagine someone not covering obvious choices such as "I Will Always Love You" and "Nine to Five." But how far deep they will cut into her catalog of tunes has yet to be determined."Two Doors Down," "Coat of Many Colors" and "Eagle When She Flies" have the potential to be showstoppers if done properly with the right hint of originality.Parton's mentoring will be seen on April 1. Then, on April 2, during the results show, Parton will perform material from her new CD "Backwoods Barbie."Look for Parton to be more of a supporter of the singers (like Paula Abdul) than a critic (like Simon Cowell)."Even the bad (singers) are just as sincere as the good ones," Parton said. "Even if they ask (if they are bad singers), I'd try to talk around it."Other highlights for the week of March 30 to April 5 (all times EDT; listings subject to change; check local listings):SUNDAY-- "The Year" (6 p.m., Great American Country).
