Turmoil at eBay
Submitted by SHNS on Tue, 03/18/2008 - 17:00.
You don't tug on Superman's cape. You don't make a mess in your own nest. And, most of all, you don't tick off eBay PowerSellers.
Those would be some of the most powerful adages these days. And eBay is learning the last one the hard way. Ever since the auction giant decided to fiddle with its fees and feedback structure this year, it is really feeling the wrath of its largest sellers, some of whom are dropping off the platform.
A May 1 boycott is being organized to protest the latest changes, namely that sellers no longer will be able to leave negative feedback for buyers, and the new fees structure, which reduces the up-front fees for some auctions but increases the back-end percentages for others.
The company says the changes, which include free gallery pictures and discounts for PowerSellers, overcome the disadvantages. It says the changes in the heralded feedback process are especially overdue.
Bill Cobb, president of eBay North America, laid out the rationale for the move in a forum post. "Overall, the current feedback system isn't where it should be," he said. "Today, the biggest issue with the system is that buyers are more afraid than ever to leave honest, accurate feedback because of the threat of retaliation. In fact, when buyers have a bad experience on eBay, the final straw for many of them is getting a negative feedback, especially of a retaliatory nature."
Sellers flooded eBay forums with complaints, most too graphic to print here, complaining there are tons of terrible buyers on the platform who deserve the negative feedback they get, especially if they pay with a bad check or cancel a PayPal transaction after the merchandise has shipped (yes, it can be done). And they argue that a one-sided discussion -- primarily, that buyers can bash sellers but not vice versa -- is patently unfair.
The company is facing rough waters in general in the wake of the changes. Longtime CEO Meg Whitman just quit and has joined the campaign of presumed Republican presidential nominee John McCain. Its stock is in the tank. And its 2008 outlook is not great. And PowerSellers are trying to move to competing platforms that offer more friendly climates, including Online Auction (www.ola.com) and Etsy (www.etsy.com) for things handmade.
And now there is a May 1 boycott that is gaining momentum. Will it work? It's no secret that without its largest sellers eBay is doomed financially. I would hope that the new CEO is listening to the racket in the marketplace, taking stock of the new upstarts and realizing the PR blunder if nothing else.
It would not be the first time a big company would admit a mistake and move on. Maybe eBay will do it sooner rather than later.

Not Just Power Sellers
It isn't just the power sellers who are upset. I sell to make money to drive 100 miles round trip to assist with my mother who has Alzheimer's. In the wake of all these incredulous changes, sales for many of us small people have nose-dived. In fact, Mr. Donohue stated that he does not want "flea marketers". I have moved to Onlineauction.com....and the atmosphere there is WONDERFUL, to say the least. The problem is that feebay will not back down. They have made a move, they won't want admit they made a mistake or back down. And you know what----sellers and buyers aren't backing down either. We are gone...we won't be back.
The human side
Not only has eBay hurt itself, but it's actions have caused many ripple effects.
Many people relied on eBay for some or all of their income. We have heard stories from single moms who needed help with the groceries and college students who were using their income for tuition or books.
This is an economic story that can be measured in listings per day and company earnings, but it is also a very human story that is measured pain and fear and loss.
God bless our troops!!!!!!
Jim
The constant manipulation and lies from ebay...Never ending
This is the most greedy company I've ever seen... These people create rules to set up an honest seller for up to 67% in fee increases...
It's not worth reading the "fine print" at ebay anymore... We know that when they have a little good news, there is TONS of bad news attached to the end...
They padded their own listings to try to cover the fact that a boycott was even happening and then when confronted with the issues, they changed their story 2 times to try to push the padded listings into the background...
I left at the beginning of February, before the new rules could affect my hard earned business... It's unfortunate that they would damage so many small sellers instead of just eliminating the bad apples... They don't do that though, because they make too much money on the bad ones...
BOYCOTT EBAY VICTORIOUSLY!!

Not a powerseller, but I am up in arms.
I am not a power seller, but I also sold on ebay to suplement our income, as I am a stay at home mom. The decrease in listing fees does not compensate the raise in final value fees. This is not our biggest concern, though.
The change to the now one sided feedback is scary, as nobody will know if a buyer is notorious for bidding and not paying, or if they receive their item then file a claim with paypal that the item was never received, thus keeping said item and getting their money back.
The majority of buyers are honest and trustworth, as are most sellers, but there is always that one bad apple that ruins the whole batch. Everybody should be able to see that apple before the damage is done.
No more eBay, I quit.
I will no longer buy or sell on eBay, as it is has become an unfriendly place for sellers. Everything is geared toward the buyer. Sellers no longer have any protection, and there are other places to sell that are more friendly and easy to work with, such as online auction and ioffer, to name a few.
Ebay Is So Unfriendly These Days!
I am a powerseller and I am very angry about all the new changes. Some of them are just flat out rediculous, like the one sided feedback. I have been on Ebay since 1999 and have watched the site head for trouble for a long time. Some of the biggest errors that Ebay has made in the past are scam sellers that they did nothing about and allowing those that they did do something about to sign up again due to their multiple ids being allowed. They then carried on the dirty work. Counterfeit items were not dealt with properly either. I sell some high end items on Ebay and the risk has gotten so high with these particular things that I have removed most of them from the site. I refuse to take the chance on losing them through a Paypal chargeback. Come May 1st I won't have anything over a few hundred dollars on there. If I didn't have so much inventory I wouldn't be on there at all now and I won't be buying to replace it as it sells through the summer either. The big guys at Ebay have turned the site into an unfriendly atmosphere for all sellers and a hostile marketplace for everyone. I hope they all get what they deserve.

Boycott Victoriously …..while making noise!
Evacuate by May 1, 2008!
On May 1 I'm gone
This Powerseller is off of Ebay on May 1. I have only a few listings now to try to move some inventory and advertise all my new sites to buyers. I've now opened stores at www.amazon.com, www.ecrater.com, us.ebid.net, www.epier.com, www.bidville.com, and www.blujay.com. I'll be adding some things to www.onlineauction.com and www.etsy.com in the coming months. Ebay started out small and I hope to help these small sites grow over the next year as many of the honest and hardworking Ebay sellers move to friendlier places.
The arrogance and short sightedness of the Ebay upper management is unbelievable. Until that e-mail from Ebay in January I never even thought of going anywhere else - and now they've pushed me out of the door. You reap what you sow EBAY!! Mr. Donahoe might want to go back and reread the Golden Rule and/or a Business 101 Textbook.
Great Marketing
So....the marketing campaign begins with "Start Your Own Business At Home". You see that in newspapers, magazines, cd's...you see Open your own you sell-it store........be your own boss". They hyped everyone to sell their wares on Ebay. Wonderful strategy. They had everyone buying it. They flocked to Ebay to supplement their income in this economy. People now found their old high school year books, their old shampoo, their old perfumes.......and all was happy. Buyers and Sellers.....happy. Now comes along New Guy who states that those items in the site make it look like a Flea Market. You know the ones. Those items that made Ebay what it is. The crowd roars with anger. New Guy refers to this roar, as just his community of sellers "making NOISE". The crowd roars louder with anger. He makes the playing field as uneven as he can to attract more buyers, Takes fair feedback away from the sellers, and now decides that buyers would like to be anonymous. Hmm.. so now buyers will not know who they are bidding against. There are so many more bad business choices that have been made regarding their re-structuring starting with "New Guy". Figure it out for yourself.......something is wrong. The bigger question though is, why would a company try to tank itself? Because that's what they are doing.
I was a power seller and also a big buyer. I won't be back on Ebay. And to further appease myself, Im going to do everything in my power to help this Boycott succeed.
They sold the community a bag of goods and then swiped it back.
Now New Guy will hear noise.
The Changes are Needed
In both the feedback system and fee structure.
Finally, eBay is taking an increase based on performance. By eliminating the gallery fee and pegging the bulk of the fee increase on the FVF, eBay is taking a significant portion of the increase on a successful sale. This is much more fair than any increase of the past.
The problem with the feedback system is that it is being changed. The two way system at eBay allows a lot of low grade sellers to degrade the buying experience which has a negative effect on the entire community. I've talked to a lot of "people on the street" about trading on eBay. More than half stated that they'll never use the venue again.
Personally, my first negative was from a seller who did not send the order. They didn't respond to e-mail for a month. I gave them a negative. THEN I got a response. They negged me back saying they only had -1- of the item. HUH? I only purchased one! I got a black eye for being honest. Happens every day.
As a seller, I've dropped the ball. A few items have gone out late, communication has gone unanswered, some shipping rates could have been a little better. I still maintained 98 - 100% positive on 5 different seller i.d.'s.
Even with the two way system, sellers are ripped off by buyers, blackmailed for better rates, partial refunds, etc. Being able to say to in their feedback doesn't mean a whole lot. Plus, most long time users have multiple ID's.
No system is going to be perfect, but the current two way system is undermining buyer confidence. Making this very significant change was gutsy, especially in the same year that management is changing hands.
It's going to be a tough year for eBay. But thousands of brand new sellers who don't know or remember how things "were" will use the site. Just like a lot of folks have in the past, may will put together a nice little business for themselves.
I think those who have chosen not to use the system have matured beyond it and will take their business to the next level independent of eBay.
Does anyone really think Donohue even cares?
The concept that the new CEO might recognize he made a "blunder" is beyond my conception. On top of Meg Whitman's gross mismanagement, this man comes in with his own agenda and vision of what the company should look like. He explicitly wanted to drive out the small sellers who were the fleas in the "flea market" but also the heart and soul of eBay.
What he didn't count on was the reaction of the power sellers. As a small seller, I was unwilling to sit for the humiliating changes that are coming on line. The powers sellers, many of whom are truly small sellers at heart (and started out as small sellers any way) are incensed by the ridiculous requirements and manipulation of funds by PayPal and eBay.
This, while in the background, customer service and seller support slowly slink away into the night. PayPal is almost consistently siding with buyers in disputes, and buyers are allowed to charge back seller's accounts, even for minor complaints.
While Donohue is fiddling, eBay is burning. He won't hear the screams of the sellers. He's too much into playing his own music.
Meanwhile, I've been out of there since the boycott started a month ago. I'm not going back. I'm setting up shops on OLA, Plunderhere and etsy. I might not sell as much, but I'm not going to be paying through the nose just to have my items hang out and not sell.
Good bye eBay, and thanks for all the fish!!
This Ebay buyer is out of here.
I am a buyer and will not be buying on Ebay any longer. I earned my feedback and with the changes it will be worth nothing. Also I will no longer be able to see who I am bidding against. It could be a shill. I think there will be a lot of that going on. The 21 day hold of funds at Paypal (and possible requirment to use Paypal) for sellers will cause many sellers to leave. I support them and will take my money else where.
So What?
I've been on ebay since 1997. I've seen all the changes...some I liked, some I didn't.
These newest changes don't bother me at all. I'm especially happy the gallery pic is now free. With the sell-thru rate at ebay at 50% or less, for the most part, this will save a bundle on relists.
Even with the increased final value fees, ebay is still cheaper to sell on than Amazon for me.
I aways have left positive feedback for buyers as soon as they paid me. I've never had the need to leave a neg for a buyer and my feedback is all positive.
I've seen all the "boycotts, strikes, 'I'm leaving and never coming back'" before. Big deal...GO!
Sellers are their own bosses
ebay appears to be under the misconception that sellers that sell on ebay are their employees when it is in fact quite different.
Sellers are their own bosses that can choose or NOT to use ebay as a selling venue.
When and if a venue does not work for a seller they will find another place and way for their business to grow.
ebay's new changes have convinced many sellers both large and small that ebay is no longer a viable place for them to do business and rightly so.
Will ebay reconsider these changes in order to keep their sellers? Only time will tell but most sellers are not going to stick around long to find out and once established at a new place why would they want to return?
Making changes
I have been with eBay since the beginning as a buyer and more often a seller.
I have found a way to adjust to their many changes over the years. I had to work harder and smarter and that was okay with me.
This latest round of fee changes did me in. Not because of increased cost, I would have found a way to work with that but because of an underreported statement made by one of the crack eBay management team in an email about the change who said, that by (paraphrasing here) that by lowering my front end listing fees, it would save me money if my item didn't sell.
While that may be a fact, when combined with the changes to the search function and the competitors ads that appear with my listing taking them off the eBay site, I realized that eBay really doesn't care if I sell anything, either at auction or fixed price.
My goal is to move my merchandise. So, for the first time, I have made a rash decision about my business and am trying several other sites. Some free ones and one with a cost. Time will tell if I have made a good, alabeit quick decision. I am willing to invest the time and work to make these other sites a success.
It certainly won't be any worse than throwing money into the eBay money pit.
No more ebay for me
It's a simple formula, sellers pay eBay for ad space, buyers & sellers complete a transaction, then feedback is exchanged.
Most transactions are amicable, but some can be negative experiences for buyer OR seller, and both parties need to express their true opinion.
eBay has always stated that feedback is OPINION of each party. If so, why are they now telling sellers that their OPINION now must be positive only?
eBay doesn't understand that SELLERS are their sole source of revenue, and this seller quits. I'm taking my ad dollars to more customer friendly pastures.
PowerSeller and Buyer
As both a PowerSeller and buyer, I cannot understand what eBay is doing. If there were no dishonest buyers, brick and mortar stores wouldn't need security guards and/or cameras. The sellers are eBay's customers, their source of revenue. Buyers are the sellers' customers. Most legitimate sellers would not leave retaliatory negative feedback. Sellers WANT and NEED repeat buyers. eBay does NOT have any buyer verification process. The public can register with one ID and minutes later, sign on with another. These are the buyers sellers need to protect one another from. Feedback is the community's eyes and ears -- their security guards, if you will, their surveillance cameras. If eBay did a better job of policing itself and removing fraudulent buyers and sellers (and yes, BOTH do exist), these new changes would not be necessary. eBay has known for decades about the forgeries and bootleg products that are sold on their site, and they have done little to eliminate the problem. Why? Because it is profitable for them to turn the other way when their pockets are being lined with this ill gotten money. eBay has taken the lazy way out by targeting sellers and leaving them vulnerable to eBay's lax buyer rules. Reputable sellers love return buyers and they cultivate good customer relationships with them. Return buyers purchase from the same sellers because of the seller's performance, not eBay's. eBay needs to keep its sellers happy, and let the sellers concentrate on keeping good customer relations with their buyers. It really is that simple.
EBay's Feedback Changes
EBay is clueless regarding feedback. I've seen way more retaliatory negative feedbacks left by buyers than by sellers. EBay is full of zero feedback newbie bidders who bid on items and never pay for them. Any seller foolish enough to leave them a neg immediately receives a neg back. EBay refuses to do anything about this problem and won't let sellers block out zero feedback bidders. I know everyone had zero feedback at one time, but newbies shouldn't be allowed to bid on items going for thousands of dollars two minutes after they create an ID. There should be some sort of regulating of newbies, but eBay refuses. I guess that would cut into their profits and we can't have that, now can we?
One's person's junk is the treasure of many
I USED TO BE an avid buyer on ebay-since 2001.I used to love to go to flea markets all over the city in my better days.
But i've been disabled for a few years now and cannot go out shopping like most other people. I even do my grocery shopping on the computer which is deilvered to my door and brought in.
I love to collect items from the 1900's to 1960's.
I've collected all kinds of things.. and won/ or bought old salt and pepper shaker sets, hand painted egg cups, those lovely delicate half shirt aprons, various types of ceramic tea pots , tea sets , old hand made doillies, framed petipoint pictures, jewelry, and other things as well as gifts for loved ones who are impossible to shop for.
My late brother used to love old zippo lighters , even though he never smoked, Each time i'd win one or two authenitic old Zippo lighters... and give them to him , he'd hug me so hard -i thought he'd break me. Ebay used to be so wonderful.-if it wasn't on ebay - you would either wait until somoeone was auctioning the item -or it didn't exist at all.
I will admit that t've encountered my share of problems-as a customer, in the past with a bad egg or two - shady sellers- but things always panned out. As in all businesses -these things happen. But overall- the Ebay sellers i've bought from were deliteful.
I love to collect items from the 1930's to 1950's. I've bought things that can only be bought at a flea market, antque store, garage sale or the like- But since i am disabled - i was grateful that i could find some of the great things i collect - on Ebay-from the comfort of my home and loved
When i first started buying and won my first item- i was absolutely thrilled that there was such a place like this. Ebay made shows like the antique roadshow so much fun to watch .Famous tv people bought collectible items -as well as re-started fads -all on Ebay. Several years even up to now- i see several famous tv shows which have brought back the whole concept of the "retro and vintage" look-and i'm not talking about reprductions. From Kitchen ware, original brooches and even plant holders. I've spent alot of money on ebay over the years- and so have my friens.
Now ebay has become nothing more than a "made in china" junk store-which i can purchase anywhere , anytime and it will cost less. But i'm from the old school- i still love the days of old when things were made in American or made in USA.
I have stopped doing business when several of my favoirte sellers told me that they can no longer afford to sell on ebay-and that they have not yet found another place to call "home".
Ebay has unfairly made too many changes that make no sense. I've lost track of all my favorite sellers -as they have left, and now feel ebay not only doesn't want their sellers- but they don't want their buyers either. I'm sure i've spent a small fortune on things that made me happy- things that brought back great memories-and i've never regretted how much i've spent. After all - we only live once- and we can't take the money with us.. so i've used it to make my home a place i love to be
SHAME ON YOU EBAY. YOU THINK YOU'RE TOO GOOD TO BE A 'FLEA MARKET' AS I'VE READ- well it's your lose.
One man's garbage is the treasure of many.
I no longer do business with ebay - and will find someplace else to spend my money- another place i can call my very own "shopping place".
If any of those big shots at ebay would bother to look - they would see that many of the cooking shows are still themed from the 40's and 50's-and items like these are in still and always be IN STYLE.
You can keep all your made in china junk, and i hope i haven't offended anyone .
A friend asked me to add on - that they too will no longer deal with ebay. She asked me just LOOK UP something on your site-even though she had no intention of doing business with Ebay-and i find your new search system more confusing and misguiding than i do do of help- and told her so.
It would be nice if even could be be the way they once were-and if i may- i might suggest that maybe Ebay could have an short time set aside maybe monthly by various appraisers - such as the Keno brothers.
WITHOUT THE SELLERS, THERE WILL BE NO BUYERS...
I've been on eBay for ten years earlier this month and have been a Powerseller. Of late, however, I've just been a regular seller since the traffic and sales have steadily gone down in the past couple of years.
eBay not only has been padding their listings during the boycott and afterwards to pull the wool over their stockholders eyes, they also are pulling every thread or post on the message boards there that mention any other auction site. Talk about PARANOID! I know some sellers over on OLA.com who have even had their eBay "ME" pages shut down simply because they mentioned OLA! OLA is the place to be! Friendly, open atmosphere, no listing fees, no final value fees! Lots of free extras too and all for only $8 a month! That's it!
I hate the nasty, stifling atmosphere that has permeated eBay. It used to be a fun place to be. But no more! They've ruined something that was really great and all for what! GREED! Meg grabbed all her money and split. Talk about the rats leaving a sinking ship!
Once the sellers are gone from GreedBay, so will be the buyers! They will have to follow the sellers! All that will be left will be the scrapings from the bottom of the barrel. eBay's latest wonderful idea is to hide bidders' ID's! GREAT! Now sleazy sellers can SHILL to their hearts' content and no one will be able to tell WHO is bidding against WHO! NO THANK YOU!
OLA, Ya'll!
Ebay, What were they thinking?
I've been buying and selling for over 9 years. They lowered the listing fee, but a huge increase in the final value fee. Well if items don't sell, it will cost me less! But my goal is to sell items! And if I sell the items, it will cost me much more. A small fee increase would have been acceptable. This is just too much. And the change in feedback is a deal breaker. I worked for years to get 100% positive feedback. It all goes out the window now.
I've stopped listing items and will not be listing on ebay if the changes remain intact. Too bad, because I was about to retire in a couple years and start full-time on ebay to supplement my retirement income. Now instead, I am going to work some overtime and probably end up making more money than I was on ebay. (At least I have that flexibility. I sympathize with sellers who need this income.) When I get more time I'll try other venues and fumble along until I can set up my own website with my items. I've been selling mail order for over 30 years and ebay WAS a great model until the corporation took over and started messing with things. The bigwigs have to tinker to justify their salaries. The unique items which collectors want and hunt for will be gone with lots of dealers leaving. Ebay can have the guys selling mass produced junk which I can find anywhere.
Using a hammer to kill flies... oops I mean fleas.....
eBay has a history of not anticipating the consequences of its actions. Someone comes up with what sounds like a good idea, they rush to implement it in a half-fast manner, and when it blows up on them . . . they refuse to change course because that would require them to admit they were WRONG.
The feedback issue could have been solved in a number of ways OTHER than the one they chose but they refused to think it through. They could have held each party's feedback until the other had left it -- no retaliation if you don't know the other guy was giving you a neg. They could make a rule that a neg could not be left by a buyer unless they could prove they paid, or by a seller if they could not prove they shipped within their stated terms. They could have allowed a cooling off period of 30 days to remove feedback, to deal with the knee-jerk newbies who use feedback instead of email to communicate.
90% of the retaliatory feedback problem probably could have been solved by allowing the negging party to remove the neg themselves if the matter was resolved. Most of the retaliatory negs are left to provide an inducement to go through a MFW.
But . . . the honchos at FeeBay being neither buyers nor sellers (except of their stock lately) they have no clue what the actual issues are. All they see is the symptom -- retaliatory neg causes buyer to leave -- without recognizing the CAUSE -- newbie buyer left seller undeserved neg in the first place.
Instead of worrying about RETALIATORY negs, they should have focused on UNDESERVED negs. Many of those retaliatory negs were richly deserved!
They could have solved the problem without taking away sellers' right to warn the community about the knee-jerk newbies and scammers who have ripped them off.
eBay decided the buyers were more important than eBay's own customers -- which are the SELLERS.
eBay is nothing but a landlord. Since when does the owner of the building I'm leasing get to tell me what my customer service policies should be? As long as he gets his rent, my relationship with MY customer is MY business.
Instead of making feedback more FAIR, they have made it completely UNFAIR.
They could have thrown out the hotheaded sellers who negged buyers needlessly, but that would mean giving up all those FEES. Instead they keep the undeserving sellers, and punish ALL sellers for those misdeeds.
Reminds me of the teacher making the whole class write sentences because two guys were throwing spitballs.
Dumbahoe should be fired.
BOYCOTT VICTORIOUSLY . . . until they get IT!
Turmoil at eBay, a welcome at OnlineAuction
As sellers leave eBay, we'll have room for them at OnlineAuction.com where our name means we'll always have an auction format and where feedback remains a two-way street.
Ebay has gotten Greedy
I have been a Seller and Buyer on Ebay for years. Not only are the changes in Feedback wrong, but we are being told that Paypal can hold our money for 21 days. So basically we are being told to ship the item but not get paid for 21 days. If we don't ship right away buyers will leave us a negative. I can't pay to ship an item and not get paid for 21 days. Is this even legal for Paypal to hold someone's money? We aren't getting interest on that money being held. Paypal is owned by Ebay so I guess they can do whatever they want. I am also a single Mom who needed the income from my small Ebay store. Or as Mr Donahue called us "flea market" sellers. How insulting! We made Ebay what it is today. As a Seller I am also a Buyer. Most sellers are also buyers. Mr Donahue should be fired. He is way out of line with his insults. I for one am closing down my small store with Ebay before May 1st. and moving to other sites. Ebay is implementing to many wrong changes. The arrogance of corporate Ebay has destroyed the place that used to be a great place to buy and sell at. No More. I am done.
As Stated Above
Boycott Victoriously …..while making noise!
There Are Alternatives - How to Find Them
If you have favorite sellers who have left eBay, many will keep their 'names' as they go elsewhere - try searching for their names. Some will sell a few items on eBay as advertising - be open to what they say if you Ask a Question with email shared.

eBay's real problems IMO:
They DO NOT enforce the standards they claim to uphold.
Their dispute processes are full of wrong thinking.
They train their users into an adversarial mentality.
They attempt customer service by robotic email response.
They are attending to everyone else's business while neglecting their own.
They have forgotten that eBay grew to be what it is BECAUSE it is the central location for all the unique items in the world to find their way from possessor to desirer. THAT is their power-market that no-one else yet fills as well. If I want Wal-Mart, I go to Wal-Mart (or Target or Sears or...); if I want Amazon, I go to Amazon (or used.Addall.com or base.google.com or...); but if I want something nobody has, where do I go? ummmm - it used to be eBay but now its anywhere else I can find (there are a LOT) - hopefully soon it will be a multiple site auction search a group of us is trying to build. Come by, learn more, chime in, help out!
Boycotters are also "padding" -- feedback and DSRs.
eBay has absolutely served its community poorly. BUT, as righteous as the boycott may have started out (and it did), these same members while angrily gathering numbers and information on eBay's own forums, and loudly proclaiming to anyone who would listen about eBay padding their listing numbers during the February boycott in order to mitigate any losses that might have occured, are now employing these same deceptive practices themselves. They have begun a listing auction blitze because it suits their agenda. This past weekend, sellers were listing auctions that took pointed jabs at eBay and their management while allowing those on their forum who needed feedback for better DSR ratings, or higher feedback numbers to manipulate the system to their own benefit. And to what purpose? If they are leaving eBay and are asking members not to list any auctions, why do they care about their "stars" or their feedback numbers and why are they listing? Is it because they know in the end, they, too, will return? If I were eBay, that is how I would see it. They have overplayed their hand and now are no better than the eBay management they wish to boycott. These are the same members who are so angry about the upcoming one way feedback system but who themselves have corrupted this same system and insulted every seller and buyer on eBay who honestly earned their feedback numbers through the years. Feedback was given by both parties immediately. They may get a warm and fuzzy feeling by thinking they have helped their fellow boycotters, but I am sure that is how eBay feels about the changes they are implementing. Both parties have muddied the water so badly, that it is hard to see how any party will benefit from their actions. I think the boycott was, and is, the right thing to do -- but somehow it too, is not what it appears to be. With too much time on their hands until May 1st, it appears the boycotters don't know what to do with themselves other than feed eBay their listing fees and reap the benefit of a feedback system from a company they have demonized.
eBay looses and OnlineAuction.com wins!
I WAS a power seller for years on ebay, I always took the good with the bad. But the fee increases and new feedback policy was the last straw for me.
then I get a retalitory feedback from someone that was a non paying bidder. I went through all the steps on ebay befor leaving neg feedback and I also blocked that buyer! Dont ask me how, but that blocked bidder came into my store, purchased a item, left instant neg feedback for me, Yes its retaliatory, but not according to ebay!
I left ebay aprox 3 weeks ago, Joined onlineauction.com.
I love that when i make a sale the money goes in my pocket, not ebays! OLA charged $8.00 a month with NO FVF'S
Jump ebays ship and join alot of us at online auction, YOU will be happy!!
Ebay caused this by NOT LISTENING!!
The lashback from the sellers by creating listings to raise their stars is a direct retaliation to ebay's unjust policy's... It's comical if you step out of the arena and look at it...
They created an unfair selling ground, and they are being caught at their own game... If anything, they deserve it for not paying attention and listening to their sellers...
They made this system to cause sellers to have to pay more fees in the end... But their system is not just and will only damage the honest seller... They know this...
Their corrupt ways have caused the "icky" to come out in even the most honest person...
Imagine what it will be like when the cyber criminal gets ahold of it???!!
Watch out ebay, you just created the ride of your life!!
BOYCOTT VICTORIOUSLY!!
Justifying "stooping to eBay's level"
You write, "Their corrupt ways have caused the "icky" to come out in even the most honest person..."
There is never justification for stooping to an opponent's level, unless you yourself are already at that level.
To win a battle, one should rise ABOVE their opponent, and not sink down to their level. That is how a successful campaign is ran. If you aren't selling on eBay and don't intend to, why care about the feedback and DSR ratings you have honestly earned by tarnishing them now?
Yes, eBay has caused the problem, but there is nothing comical about playing with a feedback system that honest buyers and sellers wish to maintain by manipulating it to suit your own needs. Saying the devil made me do it is the oldest cop-out in the book.
