DC welcomes Beckham, or not
Submitted by Victorres on Mon, 08/06/2007 - 14:50.
The Los Angeles Galaxy is scheduled to play DC United on Thursday Aug. 9 at the RFK Stadium. Since he signed with the Galaxy, David Beckham has only played 13 minutes of one game against Chelsea FC, due to an ankle injury. Since then, Beckham has missed every game.
What are the chances he plays against DC United?
Almost none. Why would the Galaxy have Beckham play his first full game away from their home stadium? It would be like betraying all the fans in California who are waiting to see him play. Also, Beckham has been out of a "real" game since he played with Real Madrid on June 17. He has not been practicing with his team and probably is not fit to play a 90-minute game.
Yet, tickets have already sold out at the RFK stadium where over 50,000 fans hope to see Beckham play. Also, RFK officials are taking extra measures for the game with extra security, shuttle services and additional Metro subway service.
"We are well prepared for the number of people expected to show up to the game," said Doug Hicks, vice president of the communications department for DC United.
But are they prepared for the thousands of angry fans if Beckham doesn't play or at least make an appearance?
According to Hicks, D.C. United officials have not discussed whether or not to compensate disappointed fans if Beckham is a no-show.

Um, most of the Galaxy's games for the remainder of the season are away games, so the chances that he can make his MLS debut at home are slim.

Betraying fans of California? RFK averages 17,000 per game, so what about all those fans that he will be "betraying" if he doesn't play on Aug. 9. Anyways, I could care less if Beckham plays or not.
VAMOS UNITED!!!
