A man received a broken leg and a trip to the hospital after a woman he was teaching how to drive stepped on the gas instead of the brake.
David Tanner, 51, was teaching Victoria Hosner how to drive when she backed over Tanner's leg with a truck about 8 p.m. Thursday in East Naples, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
Hosner, 30, was arrested for driving under the influence with damage to a person or property. She also was charged for not having a valid driver's license, Sheriff's Office reports show.
Tanner was teaching Hosner about backing up when she put the truck into reverse and stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake. Before the accident, Hosner was seated in the truck with the engine running, and Tanner was standing on the driver's side with the door open. The driver's door struck Tanner and he fell to the ground, reports show.
Hosner continued driving and ran over Hosner's lower leg. Hosner then drove in a complete circle striking a building and a telephone box, reports show.
Tanner was airlifted to Lee Memorial for treatment. Hosner was arrested and transported to jail, reports show.
