Iraq war debate raging in Congress
Submitted by Trish Choate on Thu, 07/12/2007 - 15:24.
House members by the dozens, it seems, are rising to support or bash the latest bill proposing a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq.
The Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Actappears to be drawing fire pretty well along party lines.
"By the way, putting the word responsible in the title of the bill does not make it so," U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry, a Texas Republican, said during his rare appearance on the floor.
The Dems want out, often citing the human cost of the war.
And the Repubs are making a plea to see things through, while often leveling charging the measure is politically-motivated.
"Their attempt to improve their standing comes at a cost of our troops on the ground and our national security," Thornberry, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said.
Should be interesting to see how it all shakes out this time around.
