The former first lady known for strewing wildflowers across rugged Texas died today.

Lady Bird Johnson's passing has sparked comments from Texas congressmen who all have something good to say about former First Lady Claudia Alta Taylor Johnson.

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas: "Today, Texas mourns the loss of one of her finest citizens. A devoted wife, loving mother, successful businesswoman and a tireless public servant—Lady Bird Johnson’s distinguished legacy will be cherished for generations to come. She was a pioneer in defining the modern role of the First Lady, offering advice, ideas and support for causes that enabled every citizen of our land. Spurred by her love for this country and the environment, she devoted herself to preserving and enhancing our nation’s natural beauty.

“From the wildflowers that canvass the Texas countryside to the trees and rich vegetation that line our nation’s highways, Lady Bird Johnson’s imprint on our state and country will continue to live on as a source of pride for all Americans."

U.S. Rep. Solomon Ortiz, D-Corpus Christi:
“My prayers go out to the Johnson family as they grieve the loss of this remarkable Texan and inspiring woman.

"Ladybird Johnson was the essence of a lady, so much so that it was literally her name. She brought grace and light to the State of Texas and to Washington DC.

"She was a partner to President Lyndon Johnson in their home, on the campaign trail, and in the White House.

"She made things around her prettier ... and she brought light and beauty to Washington DC, to politics, and to our nation.

"She was so proud of the Department of Education bearing the name of her beloved LBJ to illustrate their dedication to education.

"Her legacy will live on in their beautiful family ... and in the flowers and beauty of the many parks that were inspired by her all over the nation."
