He's been taking care of you for years and with Father's Day just around the corner, it's the perfect opportunity to say thank you. Problem is (and we hear this again and again) men are notoriously difficult to buy for. Here are some gift ideas and shopping tips to put some "pop" back into Father's Day!
The first law of gift giving is to listen and take notes. Has dad complaining about his old worn out slippers? Time to head to the shoe department. Is he talking endlessly about baseball season? Get tickets to a game. (Buy two and keep him company.)
If he can't afford the car of his dreams, rent the vehicle for him for the day. Take a long spin together and then head out for lunch. All the dads we polled say nothing is better than spending some quality time together, one on one.
If he already has a set of wheels he loves, give it some TLC by getting it washed. And now you're old enough to pay someone else to do it for you. Looking to spend a bit more? Take it in for a full detailing.
As the summer season nears, Dad's thoughts are likely turning to grilling in the great outdoors. When shopping for a new barbecue, consider BTUs or British Thermal Units. That's the amount of gas that's pushed through the barbecue. For quality, keep this in mind: a standard 350 square inch BBQ should be about 30,000 BTUs.
If your dad has a discerning palate, a bottle of Port may be in order. For quality at a reasonable price, look for Late Bottled Vintage Port. These spirits are aged in a cask and bottled after four to six years. And yes, the best stuff still comes from Portugal.
