Eight teenagers have been charged with a series of crimes for allegedly stealing two lambs from a farmer, then slaughtering them for amusement.

The suspects, all students at Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg, Pa., confessed in September to killing the animals. But they initially were not prosecuted because either they or their parents paid the farmer $500 for his loss, state police said.

A community uproar followed and Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett then entered the case. State police reviewed the lamb killings with Corbett's staff and charged all eight this week.

Three suspects are adults. They were identified by police as Brian Bloom, David Sebulsky and Joseph Stefanowski. All are 18 and seniors at Central Cambria.

"We made a mistake, and now we're dealing with the consequences," Sebulsky said Thursday in a telephone interview.

He turned 18 on Sept. 15, the day before he and the others captured and killed the lambs.

Sebulsky and the other two adult suspects were charged with theft, trespassing, criminal mischief and cruelty to animals.

Neither police nor the attorney general would identify the other five suspects, who are juveniles.
