The district

Location: Includes O'Hare International Airport and much of suburban DuPage County west of Chicago.

Demographics: About 75 percent white, according to the 2000 census. Only 4.3 percent of households are below poverty line, and 69.5 percent of jobs are white collar.

House vote: Republican Rep. Henry Hyde was re-elected to his 16th term in 2004 with 56 percent of the vote, his lowest total since his initial 1974 election.

Presidential vote: 2004 _ Republican George Bush 53 percent, Democrat John Kerry 47 percent.

2000 _ Republican George Bush 53 percent, Democrat Al Gore 44 percent.
