Running With Scissors: Don't Believe the anti-hype.

Word had it that "Running With Scissors" was a mess - a blunderiffic wannabe Oscar contender that fell flat on its face. But lo and behold, yesterday I go to a screening and laugh my fool head off, along with the audience. Who knew psychological torture could be so entertaining.

That's why you watch the movies.

"The Departed" is still my pick for the best of the year, but I wouldn't be surprised if "Running With Scissors" stands out come award time. Annette Bening seems to be just about a lock for a best actress Oscar nomination. Things get hot and heavy in the coming weeks, when "Babel" (supposedly a shoo-in for the best picture race) "Borat" (if it's really as funny as people say it is, it deserves a nomination) and "A Good Year" open.
