At the recent 60th annual Stockholm Furniture Fair, Offecct, a modern Swedish furniture company, unveiled surprisingly colorful, compact space-saving ideas.
The Grand sofa by Swedish design superstar Monica Forster is made up of asymmetrical left and right components and an ottoman that seems to fit into the main frame of the sofa. The variable components allow for a variety of shapes, including a divan.
The Pal bucket chair is yet another clever Offecct concoction by design studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, who designed the interior for the new Nobis hotel in Stockholm. (The Nobis is housed in a 19th-century building next to the site of the 1973 bank robbery and hostage-taking incident that led to the coining of the term "Stockholm syndrome.") The hotel's rooms vary greatly in size, so the design team devised a comfortable upholstered bucket seat and a set of metal legs that can be attached on the long or short side of the bucket seat to form either a Pal desk chair for small rooms or a Pal lounge chair for larger ones.
