Olympics Opening Ceremony
Opening Ceremony
There’s not enough time to fully elaborate on the colossal Opening Ceremony.
In a word, it was amazing.
In another word, it was amazingly long.
The show was visually stunning and the parade of nations featured enough fascinating costumes to almost make it bearable to watch Olympians from 204 nations march and march and march. Almost.
The Chinese fans cheered loudly for Chinese Taipei aka Taiwan and for Hong Kong, China. Who knew that Hong Kong was considered a separate Olympic nation?
For that matter, who has ever heard of Sao Tome and Principe or Libyan Arab Jamahiriya?
The parade was interminable, but it ended with a loud roar when Yao Ming led China’s team into the stadium.
I didn’t think that anyone could ever top the pride and excitement exhibited by the Greeks four years ago during the Athens Olympics. But the Chinese will definitely be giving them a run for their money over the next 16 days.
Let the Games begin!
