Hallelujah!
HBO saw the light and sunk the mystical surfing show John from Cincinnati after one stupefying season.
But fans of Deadwood better not get their hopes up, just yet. JFC and Deadwood creator David Milch told the NY Post that he is still working on developing other series for HBO. He is still hoping to produce the Deadwood TV movies as promised, but he added that the odds are steep.
Deadwood fans don't care about the odds. We just want our show back - even in an abbreviated movie form.
A word to the suits at HBO and Mr. Milch: a promise is a promise.
Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you.

John from Cincinnati
I'm upset over the cancellation of John from Cincinnati. It was a pleasure to finally come upon a fictional series that was a challenge to my imagination. It seems as though the majority of American television viewers need to be spoon fed simple plots, tittering laugh tracks and superficial acting. Another sign of the dumbing down of a nation.
I am so glad that they
I am so glad that they canceled this sorry excuse for a series regardless of the fate of the Deadwood movies. HBO would be smart to make them and appease the fans, but since when were they credited for having brains?
Instead of cutting their losses, they are letting Milch loose on another harebrained scheme. A cop show? Is he doing a remake of NYPD? For crying out loud! What if it is a another dud?
Although I gave Milch the benefit of the doubt for all these months, I am increasingly of the opinion that he does not want to make the Deadwood movies. The actors are openly for it and are willing to work around their schedules. So what is the problem? Money? HBO should think of the $$$ they would have saved had they not made JFC.
Amen, brother!
Amen, brother!
Brian, I agree with you that
Brian,
I agree with you that the show was challenging. That is one of the reason I kept watching throughout the show's 10 episodes. But after awhile, the challenge for me was whether I had any interest in watching the JFC characters develop. Their attitudes made them tough to embrace. And their actions - especially after Shaun returned from his kidnapping - made absolutely no sense at all.
Thanks for writing.
JFC
Ye of simple minds,
John from Cincinnati was one of the best original shows ever produced.. I hope they reconsider.
John From Cincinnati
I really hoped that HBO was making a new season of JFC.. I'm sad to see that show go. I'll miss the opening song by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, Johnny Appleseed. It was fun while it lasted but i guess HBO just is too stubborn. Loved Deadwood, too. Also, I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but i also would enjoy a new War series ever since Band of Brothers our family really got into war movies.
Good news
Ryan, I believe you're in luck.
I read that HBO and Tom Hanks are developing another World War II miniseries, this one related to the war in the Pacific.
Thanks for writing.
