Just when you thought wallpaper was old-fashioned, designers have come up with some interesting and innovative ideas. Halloween is around the corner, and the RoomMates Peel & Stick (www.roommatespeelandstick.com) wallpaper company has created scary paper for the holiday.
The creepy wallpaper design makes the wall look like something is tearing through from behind, whether they're skeletons, vampires or bloody hands. All these designs are available as appliques so you can decorate and then discard, or decorate and save for the next year. The stickers will adhere to any smooth surface, whether it's a wall, headboard, dresser or lamp. Even a steamy bathroom wall will work. And there is no residue left behind when the stickers are removed.
Say you're not into scary. How about a not-so-eerie 3-D wall applique? Disney has created a wallpaper design called Wallables that come in the popular Disney characters such as Buzz Lightyear, Tinkerbell and Cinderella. The Disney Princesses are all available, as are Winnie the Pooh characters.
These Wallables glow in the dark, creating a soft light near a child's bed that fades slowly as the child falls asleep. They are touchable in that they are made of eco-friendly, soy-based material that is bendable and soft. The different textures encourage tactile exploration. They also come in alphabet letters and other interesting patterns for decorating a child's room, such as stars, suns, butterflies, cars, airplanes, etc. And like those scary Halloween appliques, these can be removed and reused.
