Forbidden no more
From all corners of the globe
We carved out some free time Thursday to check out the Forbidden City, a massive complex of ancient thrones and temples where Chinese emperors ruled for centuries.
The Forbidden City used to be off limits to commoners. But on Thursday tourists from all corners of the globe toured the Forbidden City. We spotted people from Malawi, Poland, Belize, Canada, Brazil, Italy, Spain, and Germany, not to mention several Americans.
We talked briefly with a young journalist from Africa who was in town for the Olympics. We also chatted for a few minutes with a couple of guys from the United States. A guy wearing a Texas Rangers T-shirt didn’t say anything really memorable, but a man wearing a University of Missouri hat dropped a bombshell. He predicted that his hometown Kansas City Chiefs could finish 8-8 this NFL season.
I feel for that gentleman. It appears that the awe and majesty of the Forbidden Palace has affected his ability to think and reason.
