Egypt: If you go ...

If you go ...
Climate: The best time to travel to Egypt is the winter -- December, January, February -- when daytime temperatures in Cairo and Luxor stay in the 70s, with evenings 10 to 20 degrees cooler. Summer temperatures can frequently rise above 100 degrees. In a country that receives on average 2 inches of rain a year, precipitation is rarely an issue.
Visas: A valid passport is required as is a visa, which costs $15 for U.S. citizens. Questions regarding documentation should be addressed to: Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Washington, D.C., or by calling 1-202-895-5400.
Royal Cleopatra: Prices for this "Dahabia Nile Cruise" on a traditional Egyptian sailboat depend on the number in the group and the number of nights spent aboard and the exchange rate at time of purchase. Our group of six paid approximately $600 per person for four nights. The price includes three meals a day and all fees for visiting sites en route plus the service of an accompanying guide. Mena House Oberoi in Cairo: This palatial hotel that has served guests since 1869 overlooks the great pyramids of Cairo. For more information and photos, go to www.oberoimenahouse.com.
