Cheering in the press box

At U.S. sporting events., there is an unwritten rule – no cheering in the press box.

We were reminded recently at the Water Cube that we are definitely not in America.

The rule doesn’t apply at the Olympics. Even though most American sportswriters don’t actively cheer for U.S. athletes here, they do offer quiet support. Other countries aren’t so quiet. Several journalists, including many from Russia and other Eastern bloc nations, wear jerseys supporting their countries. And many journalists get very excited when their athletes do well. Check out this video of some journalists celebrating after their swimmer came through.
