Card collectors can help find a cure for prostate cancer

Collecting cards is a great hobby. When you can add to your collection and help a good cause, it’s that much better.
Well, now’s the time to step up to the plate and help folks doing the research to find a cure for prostate cancer.
Each year around Father’s Day the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) raises money for research by securing pledges for its Home Run Challenge.
It’s a pretty simply proposition. You pledge money and then donate based on the number of homers slugged during 60 selected Major league baseball games from June 7 through Father’s Day, June 18.
You can make a Home Run Challenge pledge by calling 1-800-798-CURE (2873) or by visiting www.prostatecancerfoundation.org. Pledges start at 25 cents. One-time donations are also welcome. Pledges can be made up to the start of the last game of the Home Run Challenge on June 18.
Here’s the part for collectors. Once again the PCF has put together a special set of cards featuring David Ortiz, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Richie Sexson, Eric Chavez, Ken Griffey Jr., Derrek Lee, Scott Rolen, Luis Gonzalez and Todd Helton.
The cards carry info on prostate cancer. Brad Sondecker, PCF spokesman, wants to get the word out on the deadly disease and offers the cards for free to anyone who sends in a SASE and requests them while supplies last.
However, Da Babe’s readers have been generous in the past and I hope you’ll be able to help once again in the battle against this silent killer. Methinks one-time donations with the request for cards will be accepted even after Father’s Day.
Just send that SASE along with your donation to Brad Sondecker, Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica CA 90401.
Make sure to tell ”˜em Da Babe sent you and the cards should be on their way.
