Bush could make statistical history

The latest polls show new downward pressure on President Bush's approval rating, pushing him into the upper 20s for the first time. The latest Gallup estimate had him with 32 percent approval, but Newsweek announced a new low at 26 percent this week.
President George W. Bush also enjoys the distinction of the highest approval rating ever recorded. Immediately after 9/11, Bush stood at 90 percent approval in the greatest rally effect every recorded in the United States.
If Bush's approval falls to 25 percent, he will set a record for the largest shift in public opinion in presidential history. That would surpass Harry Truman's range which had a high of 87 percent and a low of 23 percent.
Paying taxes unites us. It also divides us. People can pay five and even six times more in state and local taxes than other folks in similar circumstances making similar incomes.
